The Democratic hate really started with the expansion of talk radio and the likes of Rush Limbaugh. That continued with FOX - but I also think the availability of the internet has made it worse. Because we're so connected, it's easier to spread BS than it was 20 years ago. Think back to the firestorm we saw from Ron Paul's racist newsletters from the early 90s. Back then, back when they were written, how many actually even knew they existed? But today, everything is so widespread, social media makes it easier to spread the lies and hate and push an agenda.

Just look at Facebook. I see it all the time from my dad's red neck clan who've decided they hate Obama (and they hated Clinton too, but it wasn't nearly at this level). It's a big reason my father stopped associating with his side of the family because they were all right-wing nut jobs. Today? I have his sister on my FB and all she does is post anti-Obama bullshit that has been debunked. This shit wouldn't have hit the main stream a decade ago. But now it is. That's the scary part. As the internet grows, so does the hate because it's easier to connect and spread.
