The only way such a massive liar can live with him/herself is to actually believe the lies being told. I've known a few pathological liars in my life and they all delude themselves into believing their own fabrications.

I suspect Romney hired yes-men enablers and self-deluded himself into thinking victory was well within his grasp. When the truth came out that he lost, it was hard for him to accept because he had been lying to himself all along.
