A 15-year-old girl described as "a completely innocent bystander" was shot in Pine Hills Sunday evening while riding home from church with her parents, the Orange County Sheriff's Office reported.
Sheriff's spokeswoman Jane Watrel said the girl was sitting in the back seat of her parents' minivan as they drove west on North Lane shortly before 6:30 p.m. The family had been celebrating the mother's birthday by attending church, Watrel said. The girl's father, who was driving, heard shots coming from two vehicles that approached the van at a high rate of speed a charcoal-colored Chevy Equinox SUV and a tan sedan.
The father immediately turned onto N. Powers Drive to get out of the way but then looked back to see his van's rear window shattered and his daughter slumped over.
Watrel would not say where the girl had been shot, and the victim's name has not been released. Several news reports said she was shot in the head ...
