7. It says that stopping law abiding citizens from carrying guns will protect criminal assailants.

Last edited Sat Jul 28, 2012, 03:10 AM - Edit history (1)

If a criminal wants to attack and kill, rob, rape or beat a citizen, he will be able to do it with the knowledge that his victim will not be legally armed. The criminal's safety will be purchased with the blood of his victims.

This is similar to the case under discussion. If the police had been unarmed, he easily could have been killed, and quite possibly the woman he was giving a ride to.

And after all, given a choice between a dead police officer and woman and a dead attacker, wouldn't we all prefer that the criminal attacker survive? Given a choice between a dead schoolteacher or secretary and a dead mugger, wouldn't we all prefer the mugger survive?

This is one of the moral principles of gun control—at least your version of it—protect the attackers of decent folks at all cost. If necessary, sacrifice the lives of the intended victims, be they police officers or citizens, but protect the criminal.

El Paso is not depressing, the people are beautiful and the rugged desert landscape is also beautiful. I spent the day Thursday climbing to the peak of the mountain. During my hike we saw deer, coyotes and a rattle snake. I spend a lot of my free time wandering the desert west of El Paso, exploring volcanic craters, rugged canyons and hunting for arrowheads left by the native indians hundreds of years ago.

33. 7 shot in overnight violence as neighbors say gangs 'fighting for pieces of street'

By Peter Nickeas Tribune reporter
10:17 a.m. CDT, July 28, 2012

A man was apparently caught by a rival gang member who shot him in the head as he tagged a wall on 22nd Place, just west of California Avenue early Saturday morning, according to police.

The man, one of at least seven people shot overnight, was in extremely critical condition when taken to Mount Sinai Hospital a few blocks north on California Avenue. An evidence technician recovered a can of black paint that fell under a car and the smell of the paint lingered on the wall Saturday morning.

The stretch of 22nd Place between California Avenue and Marshall Boulevard is the territory of one gang, neighbors said. West of Marshall is another gang, and east of California is the turf of a third gang. The graffiti on the wall indicated its writer was disrespecting two of the gangs on both sides.

Two neighbors stood outside the crime scene, both awakened by the sound of four or five gunshots ...

Brady and Williams previously had bought prescription painkillers from Mitchell at Mitchell’s home.

Arrest warrants further say that Brady and Williams went to Mitchell’s home with the intent to rob Mitchell of money and prescription painkillers and then shoot Mitchell with a shotgun, Metts said. Metts also said Brady and Williams acted with malice aforethought when they shot and killed Mitchell, shooting Mitchell multiple times in his upper torso. Brady and Williams then stole money, a safe, credit cards and prescription painkillers that belonged to Mitchell ...

OSBI agents received the call around 4:40 a.m. Saturday but believe John Beisley died before midnight, she said. Brown said after the shooting, Glendora Beisley drove herself to the Muskogee 911 Center where law enforcement agents called Craig County authorities.

John Beisley was charged in May 2005 with domestic assault and battery, a misdemeanor. That charge was dropped in December, court records show.

Glendora Beisley was charged with assault with a deadly weapon in April 2010, but the charge was dismissed in October 2010, records show.

The Slidell Police Department is investigating a drive-by shooting that left a man dead behind the wheel of his car at a RaceTrac gas station off Gause Boulevard.

The incident occurred around 1:30 p.m in the 1700 block of Gause Boulevard, just across from the busy Outback Steakhouse, Texas Roadhouse and Applebees restaurant locations.

According to witnesses who say they were in the parking lot of Applebees, the shooter pulled up next to another charcoal-grey car, the victims car, and opened fire.

A man, who has not been identified, was shot in the head and there were also a woman and child in the car, but they were spared, witnesses say ...

On Friday, 33-year-old Aaron Bise was celebrating his birthday with a co-worker at Bear’s Restaurant in Slidell; the following day he fired two rounds from a .357 revolver that killed 31-year-old Christopher Joseph Miller.

Those who were close to Bise, along with the police, are stating the story leading up to Saturday’s homicide is complicated—mostly stemming from “an ongoing feud over a female,” whose name is Jennifer. Her full name is being withheld in order to protect the family’s identity.

Around 1 p.m. Saturday, Aaron Bise was on his way to drop off his girlfriend—who is still legally married to Miller but living separately—at her car, which was parked at a daiquiri shop off Gause Boulevard, near Ruby Tuesday and the across from the RaceTrac gas station, the scene of the homicide.

“Basically the events leading up to the Saturday shooting was (the girlfriend) was with her boyfriend, Mr. Bise, and apparently Mr. Miller found out,” said Detective Daniel Seuzeneau, who is leading the investigation ...

humans cause those discharges for a reason. By concentrating on guns, you are ignoring most domestic abuse where the man kills the woman. Women tend to shoot, mostly in defense. Men tend to use more brutal and violent means as part of the humiliation and subjugation. At least, according to an article written by criminologist James Wright quite awhile ago.
Most of the places are on major drug trafficking routes and distribution points.

79. actually they are not

for decongestants:
can buy at 18
can legally buy for someone else
I can buy without background check
I can buy in any state or territory
I can put it in my pocket without violating any laws
I can buy two packages without the feds knowing about it
felons may posses

for handguns from a federally licensed dealer:
Must be 21
felony to buy for someone else
must go through background check
probably violate state law by putting it in my pocket
ATF is notified if I buy more than one in the same week
Can only buy in my state of residence (same applies to private sale)
felon in possession is a mandatory min of five years in Club Fed

Those are the federal laws, your state probably has more. BTW, meth causes greater harm to society.

82. 18 for long guns

beyond that, federal laws are the same. Oh yeah, there was that stupid mailing pistol act that Republicans passed and Harding signed in 1927. While the law is still on the books, Nixon made it moot when he created USPS form the Post Office.

All federal and state laws must be followed at gun shows, many of the dealers there are FFLs, and must do background checks. Some states require private sellers to pay an FFL to do back ground check. Under federal law, a private seller is prohibited from doing the background check, that is why "gun show loophole" is a misnomer. Some promoters do it voluntarily and create a mechanism to do it. Cops tend to hang out at gun shows. According to the ATF, criminals rarely buy them at gun shows.

An FFL, in case you don't know, is a Federal Firearms License holder, which is a dealer's license.

97. Homeowner shoots two men on Atlanta's west side

ATLANTA -- Police say a homeowner fired at three men banging and kicking at his door.

Officer John Chafee with Atlanta Police says it happened around 11 a.m. Friday on Drew Drive, between Perry Boulevard and Johnson Road.

Chafee says the owner saw a van pull up and three men he didn't know came up and started banging and kicking at his door.

Chafee says the man feared for his life and got a gun.

He opened the door and started firing, hitting two of the suspects.

The three people ran back to the van and drove off.

Officers found the van and pulled it over. The one man who was not shot ran off.

Police arrested the other two and took them to Grady Memorial Hospital, where they are both in stable condition.

Arrests In Brooklyn Drive-By Shooting That Injured Six, Including 2-Yr-Old

... The NYPD announced that 19-year-old Brooklyn residents Lawand Tinsley, arrested yesterday, and Michael Jones, arrested today, were charged with six counts of attempted murder, six counts of assault and six counts of criminal possession of a weapon.

Police say that a tip led to Tinsley's arrest. Apparently Tinsley made "statements implicating himself" in the shooting which occurred on a street by Chester Street and Riverdale Avenue. The Daily News reports, "The intended target, 17-year-old Andrew Void, had run to that location after seeing the gunman and two accomplices as they approached him at a bodega a block and half away."...

A 15-year-old girl described as "a completely innocent bystander" was shot in Pine Hills Sunday evening while riding home from church with her parents, the Orange County Sheriff's Office reported.

Sheriff's spokeswoman Jane Watrel said the girl was sitting in the back seat of her parents' minivan as they drove west on North Lane shortly before 6:30 p.m. The family had been celebrating the mother's birthday by attending church, Watrel said. The girl's father, who was driving, heard shots coming from two vehicles that approached the van at a high rate of speed — a charcoal-colored Chevy Equinox SUV and a tan sedan.

The father immediately turned onto N. Powers Drive to get out of the way but then looked back to see his van's rear window shattered and his daughter slumped over.

Watrel would not say where the girl had been shot, and the victim's name has not been released. Several news reports said she was shot in the head ...

315. Law of probability. they don't put evidence in the paper

and when the DA does, it is to get a conviction before the trial via trial by media. Most murderers and murder victims have criminal records. It looks like a gang hit.

319. the stories i've found sometimes indicate that family members or police describe

the shooting as gang-related

in the case of #121, i looked at several versions of the story and couldn't find anyone describing it as gang-related

if news report quotes somebody, who might actually know something about what happened, saying the event was gang-related, i would regard that as evidence the event might be gang-related

but if you babble softly and vaguely about "laws of probability," i don't regard that as evidence

359. look at your own posts

which are mixed with suicides, self defense, and criminal acts. Suicides are the majority. After you remove the self defense and accidents, 80 percent of the criminal acts are gangs.

370. "Suicides are the majority"? Ya is makin it up as ya goes! Right now, I count six obvious suicides.

There will be more than six when all the cases are in, and maybe after careful examination, but they're certainly not half the sample

Why oughta anybody take ya serious ya if ya just spouts off stuff ya makes up?
