63. I think there's a lot more of that in our society than most of us would like to admit...

It's part and parcel to our being as a "First Half" of Life Culture. There is VERY little Both/And thinking going on over there, and a WHOLE lot of "Either/Or". For them, the world exists in a Black and White way, and any grey is not just an unacceptable space to occupy, be understood, and accepted or rejected in varying degrees of usefulness, it's just simply NOT THERE. Understanding the degrees of the Grey, is a thing that comes with WISDOM, is a thing that comes with reflection (and usually with the pain of a lot of life lessons). In their world, that's something that never needs to be done, because Jesus, and Rand, and Cheney were all of them RIGHT, and so no further reflection is ever necessary. Good thing we (for now) are a little smarter than that, and the American Electorate seems to be turning their ears to our direction for a bit.
If we pull off taking back the House (long shot) and keeping the Senate, it won't be a time to gloat, rather, we will need to have our "math" on this one DOWN PAT, and be able to explain not just the answer but the PROCESS to, (as the above poster mentioned) the Nations 6-year olds--even the 40-year old ones. THAT'S how we win long-term. That's how we get the Culture we NEED to have in order to lead the rest of Humanity OUT of the 20th Century, and INTO something better. And yes, I think we are uniquely equipped to do so, and we may be the ONLY ones. Our SYSTEM is what empowers that in a way that few others can. But if Romney can't wrap his head around a simple concept like "Israel and Palestine can BOTH exist, AND not be at war, he's NOT the guy that's gonna get that system right, because he mis-understands the power INHERENT to the system. He mis-interprets the energy that drives it, that gives it life and dynamism and Future. He's bowing to the idea of the dumbest among us that the "shining city on a hill" is lit up by Miracles, and not by Electrons. It's a crass, completely craven attempt to win this election on EMOTION, on IMPULSE, on NON-REFLECTION, and it won't work, because the ABSOLUTE FAILURE of almost everything the last Republican Majority attempted has got people thinking, got them REFLECTING, in ways that haven't happened in this country since at least the beginning of the 1970's.
Keep talking to people. Most of them WANT knowledge of WHY this is happening. We have to get them to those answers, and we can't force them to our way of thinking. But we CAN put them on an intellectual path that gets them there FOR US, of their own volition. Just tell them, "For everything you think you know, for every TRUTH you think you see, ask yourself, "BUT WHY?" That should kick-start the process nicely. Most of the self-professed Conservatives I know can't really tell you WHY they are Conservative, and I end up realizing they are actually MORE LIBERAL than they can see. That they can't see it is the problem.
There are (and always will be) very small %age are just intractable idiots, and the only thing you can do is take comfort in the fact that they will probably be outvoted in Nov...

WOW I didn't mean for that to get that long...maybe it needs it's own thread lol. Oh well, that's what you get for asking for opinions when I just wake up on a good 6 hours sleep hahaha.=)
