Paul Ryan: 'It Would Take Me Too Long' To Explain Mitt Romney's Tax Plan
Source: Huffington Post
WASHINGTON -- Republican vice presidential nominee Paul Ryan promised again on Sunday that Mitt Romney’s tax plan would bring lower tax rates for all Americans while remaining revenue-neutral, although he didn’t fully explain how it would accomplish that. The Obama campaign has blasted the Romney-Ryan ticket for not providing details on how it would give Americans such large tax breaks without growing the deficit. Ryan reiterated in an interview on "Fox News Sunday" that the plan would drop taxpayers' bills by 20 percent without costing a dime, due to closed tax loopholes, but he was short on specifics when pressed by host Chris Wallace. “You haven’t given me the math,” Wallace said in one exchange. “I don’t have the ... It would take me too long to go through all of the math,” Ryan responded. -snip- Read more: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/09/30/paul-ryan-tax-plan-mitt-romney_n_1926660.html

25. Ryan's persona baffles me.
|
I am using persona, as defined by the Swiss psychologist Carl Jung. That it is the social face the individual presents to the world - "a kind of mask, designed on the one hand to make a definite impression upon others, and on the other to conceal the true nature of the individual."
Paul Ryan appears to be very charming, almost child like in his enthusiasm. Very much like a naive, yet a likable perpetual adolescent full of energy and boundless self confidence that he has a grasp on absolute truth. I can't help from wondering if this persona has taken over his entire being to the extent that his individuality has been suppressed. In the way he cocks his head and widely opens his eyes he appears to mimic Bambi. Very serious issues are brushed away with absolutes without any consideration of the complexities. For example in his absolute acceptance that abortion is wrong in very case without any regard to circumstances. His approach in absolutes who be like an judge sentencing a man to prison for stealing a loaf of bread to feed his children without any regard to the circumstances. Its a crime, period, end of discussion. I would welcome any insight that anyone has to offer. |

Belief in absolutes, dualities, yes/no, good/bad, draw red line, etc is a disease, and one that Republicans and religious fundamentalists are very prone to. However, it can strike people of any stripe. It needs to avoided. It's a trap. Recognize it and think around it.

|
Last edited Mon Oct 1, 2012, 12:14 AM USA/ET - Edit history (1) It's part and parcel to our being as a "First Half" of Life Culture. There is VERY little Both/And thinking going on over there, and a WHOLE lot of "Either/Or". For them, the world exists in a Black and White way, and any grey is not just an unacceptable space to occupy, be understood, and accepted or rejected in varying degrees of usefulness, it's just simply NOT THERE. Understanding the degrees of the Grey, is a thing that comes with WISDOM, is a thing that comes with reflection (and usually with the pain of a lot of life lessons). In their world, that's something that never needs to be done, because Jesus, and Rand, and Cheney were all of them RIGHT, and so no further reflection is ever necessary. Good thing we (for now) are a little smarter than that, and the American Electorate seems to be turning their ears to our direction for a bit.
If we pull off taking back the House (long shot) and keeping the Senate, it won't be a time to gloat, rather, we will need to have our "math" on this one DOWN PAT, and be able to explain not just the answer but the PROCESS to, (as the above poster mentioned) the Nations 6-year olds--even the 40-year old ones. THAT'S how we win long-term. That's how we get the Culture we NEED to have in order to lead the rest of Humanity OUT of the 20th Century, and INTO something better. And yes, I think we are uniquely equipped to do so, and we may be the ONLY ones. Our SYSTEM is what empowers that in a way that few others can. But if Romney can't wrap his head around a simple concept like "Israel and Palestine can BOTH exist, AND not be at war, he's NOT the guy that's gonna get that system right, because he mis-understands the power INHERENT to the system. He mis-interprets the energy that drives it, that gives it life and dynamism and Future. He's bowing to the idea of the dumbest among us that the "shining city on a hill" is lit up by Miracles, and not by Electrons. It's a crass, completely craven attempt to win this election on EMOTION, on IMPULSE, on NON-REFLECTION, and it won't work, because the ABSOLUTE FAILURE of almost everything the last Republican Majority attempted has got people thinking, got them REFLECTING, in ways that haven't happened in this country since at least the beginning of the 1970's. Keep talking to people. Most of them WANT knowledge of WHY this is happening. We have to get them to those answers, and we can't force them to our way of thinking. But we CAN put them on an intellectual path that gets them there FOR US, of their own volition. Just tell them, "For everything you think you know, for every TRUTH you think you see, ask yourself, "BUT WHY?" That should kick-start the process nicely. Most of the self-professed Conservatives I know can't really tell you WHY they are Conservative, and I end up realizing they are actually MORE LIBERAL than they can see. That they can't see it is the problem. There are (and always will be) very small %age are just intractable idiots, and the only thing you can do is take comfort in the fact that they will probably be outvoted in Nov... WOW I didn't mean for that to get that long...maybe it needs it's own thread lol. Oh well, that's what you get for asking for opinions when I just wake up on a good 6 hours sleep hahaha.=) |

|
is, in MY opinion, just a lot of Bacon, a lot of 'Greasing the Wheels' money. Rather than cutting it from the budget, I say let's CONTROL it, and put it to a proper and USEFUL END. I think if we have to write a sensible Budget in the next term anyway, why not build into it an internal mechanism that addresses the need of politicians to DO local politics, to grease the wheels so to speak, and not make things worse. Lets give EACH member of Congress an annual stipend, that they can spend in THEIR district ONLY, for whatever they want, no questions asked. Need that Bridge to Nowhere? Fine, use the Grease Money we give you, (save it for a few years, if need be) but you DON'T get any more this year (and don't you DARE come back to us for more, you won't get it), and you CAN'T spend it on elections. If you spend it all on Hookers and Blow, or Bridges to Nowhere, the rest of us really don't care, but the people of your district might, so be careful with that. Lets BUILD IT INTO THE BUDGET, so we stop wasting time with it on the Floor of Congress.

On those that they are closed on. Just saying. Of course his idea of a "loophole" would be Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid. Somehow I'm doubting that Mittwit will be closing the loopholes that allow him to pay 14% or less in taxes while the middle class and working poor foot the bill.

53. This is the way I think about his reluctance to explain budgets, policies and ideas---
|
They are asking us to accept their ideas and policies and plans without a single explanation using real numbers so that we can make calculations on how their plan would impact us personally.
That is the equivalent of applying for and accepting responsibility for a mortgage without knowing the amount of the mortgage, the interest rate or the monthly payment that will be required in order to pay off that mortgage. NO ONE would be that naive or stupid, would they? Yet, that is exactly what Paul Ryan and Mitt Romney are asking us to do. JUST TRUST US. We'll give you all the answers later after you've voted for us (signed on the dotted line). Well, excuse me for being a little bit less than eager to sign up for something or someone that won't tell me ahead of time what I'm signing up for. If they can't tell me the details, I can't consider whether to give them my vote. PERIOD. |

Much too tall for Romney.
It's certainly not how the smart money would bet. |

Was once told the way to determine the difference between a psychotic and
a neurotic was: A psychotic thinks 2 plus 2 equals 5. A neurotic knows 2 plus 2 equals 4 but it bothers him, Now Mr Ryan would you please explain Mr. Romney's and your plan? |
