What kind of liberal puts Wall Street in the White House? Appoints ex-Monsanto CEOs to the EPA? Bails out banks and then doesn't even fight for a public option? Has secret meetings with big pharma/insurance companies and then denies it repeatedly until forced to admit it? Doesn't even let single-payer advocates come to the table?
The "Obama is a liberal" schtick is worse than old. It's dangerous. It's the redefining of what a liberal is and it's moving the political spectrum farther and farther to the right. There are no liberals to speak of in DC. The ones that are there barely get a peep in and have no real influential power, especially when their admin tells them to stfu.
As to your other point about liberal support, most people are ill-informed and are not paying attention to the day to day goings on in DC.
I know self-described liberals who believe they are happy with PBO but have no idea of what he's done, or has not done. They don't realize what the Patriot Act does or know that it's still in existence. They don't know the extent of the NSA spying. They don't know that Obama pushed for that, pushed to legalize what we all were worried about when Bush was doing it illegally. That's not liberal at all. And I didn't even bring up the drone strikes and the saying that it's okay to assassinate American citizens or that --- damn, I had a really good one but I got distracted and forgot what it was... well you get the picture.
No matter what he's done as far as accomplishments, it does not show him to be a liberal when you add in all the negative/conservative/Republicanesque stuff he has done. Like I said, he's a self-described moderate Republican.
