In reply to the discussion: It's really hard to take criticism of Obama here seriously [View all]BainsBane
(53,035 posts)The president is not Santa Claus. The extent to which some vest all blame and hope in a president shows no understanding of the way in which our political system works. The president is responsible for what he can do within the limits of his office. A lot of people here blame Obama for everything while looking to a future presidential candidate, like Warren, as a savior--a messiah. As a result, they will always complain because no president fulfills their wishes. Given that most of these people are not young, I can only imagine they have been angry at politicians their entire lives. Since they prefer complaining to working to bring about change--which is most effective at the local level rather than through the presidency, I can only assume they derive some satisfaction from their continual state of angst. Most of them seem to think themselves more leftier than everyone else, and seem to take pleasure in feeling themselves superior to the rest of Americans. Yet on issues, there is no evidence of their supposed leftism. I've had a number respond to Marxist analysis by calling me "third way" or libertarian, which reveals an astounding provincialism and lack of familiarity of leftist ideology and theory.
One of the more absurd responses was to an OP I posted on Marxism, in which a couple of posters came along and decided the whole thing was a defense of Hillary Clinton, when in fact I mentioned her no where. That kind of trivialization of politics and leftism is mind boggling. It is as though they insist on reducing everything to the lowest common denominator. Therefore I leave them to their naval gazing.
