That remark is so true. Some years ago I heard a similar sort of saying-"One shot heard in the distance means a hunter bagged his deer for the season. Two shots in the distance means a hunter may have bagged his deer for the season. Three shots in the distance means he missed."
I love it -"12 rounds means you already missed the deer 11 times". Classic! In the days I used to hunt deer in Vermont and Maine, not once did I see any hunter using an assault rifle. Among the hunters I used to hunt with they looked down on using those types of guns. You were more likely to get laughed at than anything. On a more serious note, the single shot priority was what was emphasized. Taking your game with a single, well-place shot that made for a quick kill was your priority as a hunter.
