The problem, the basic problem, with US politics [View all]

It is two fold.

1.- American Exceptionalism, which goes hand in hand with empire

2.- Fear.

They go together, but if we want to change these dynamics we need to realize that all major political problems, whether austerity (f we don't reform Medicare it will go bankrupt, fear...if we pass gun laws they'll take my guns...fear) we need to recognize this is a key component.

Keeping people on the edge of panic is a powerful tool.

And then there is Exceptionalism. We really do not want to become like oh Europeans, and pass sensible singe payer, cause we're americans and we're special.

These are critical. We need to realize fear is stopping us, and that includes fear of...change and that perhaps we're not that exceptional.
