(37,573 posts)For myself, I support policies, not people. That's why I am not ashamed of supporting John Edwards, because no matter what flaws were in his character, there was still truth in his two Americas speeches and in his focus on the poor.
If Obama proposes policies that help the bottom 60%, then I support him. If, like a good DLCer he proposes policies that help the top 20% and the corporate world, then I oppose him.
If he tells the truth, then I support him. If he tells lies, then I oppose him.
The fact is that Obama is not going to do anything to slow the "trend toward concentration of wealth" if he keeps proposing tax cuts that give far more to the top 20% than they do to the bottom 40%. Obama plans to keep the Bush tax cuts for all income under $250,000. That will give $163 billion in tax breaks to the top 20%, including $40 billion to the top 1% and only $14 billion in tax breaks to the bottom 20%. If he decreases inequality by doing that, he will go down in history as one of the greatest magicians of all time.
