(84 posts)I'm going to come to the defense of a fellow low-number poster (what is this discouragement of low-count posters - there really are sincere progressive Democrats who simply haven't posted frequently). I wouldn't be surprised if a store like this also sold similar, or even the same, anti-Romney material. It's possible the store owners simply sells what they think will sell. The punching bag, to me, is over the line, encouraging physical violence. The Bush "miss me yet" shirt has the same saying as countless posters, bumper stickers, even billboards. It mystifies me that anyone would feel this way, but some do, and they have the right to express this sentiment.
And people have the right to boycott the store and encourage others to do the same. As I said, the punching bag goes too far, but I don't think I could discourage people from boycotting a store just because they sell T-shirts that offend some segment of the population. I've been to the Jersey shore, and this covers half the merchants on the boardwalk.
In the range of things to be offended by, given the daily statements and lies of Romney, Ryan, Fox commentators, Republican strategists and lawmakers, this would be pretty low on my list. I have looked at the websites that sell "political" bumper stickers. In their "Conservative" category, I see a lot of slogans that seem stupid, wrong, offensive, or simply pointless. They invariably also sell "Liberal" bumper stickers, which may not offend me, but are often just as stupid or pointless.
To me, so what? I'll save my outrage for the real offenders, who are all too numerous (hey, I live in a state that elected Paul LePage governor, albeit by an election fluke, so I am outraged every time I turn on the local news).
