The New Poems of Sarah Palin

On Feb. 23, the state of Alaska released more than 17,000 emails from former governor Sarah Palin’s final months in office. As in her previous cache of correspondence, the emails contain new comedic verse by the Belle of Wasilla worthy of the poems in her 2011 collection published by Byliner Originals, I Hope Like Heck.

A Vast Left-Wing Conspiracy
I know.
And I just told someone:
We’re not paranoid
They really are after us!

Marital Problems
So
Speaking of…
If we,
Er,
When we
Get a divorce,
Does that quell
The ‘conflict of interest’ accusation
With BP?

Who’s Afraid of the Big Bad Wolf? – The Guardian ‘Open Journalism’ and Social Media

Last night, The Guardian launched a new TV advert to promote its ongoing ‘open journalism’ campaign, based around the children’s tale of the Three Little Pigs. The two minute video depicts how the escapades of these re-imagined characters, together with the Big Bad Wolf, are reported by the media – across print, digital and social media channels. With an unexpected twist in the tail (see what I did there?!), it posits that only this 360 degree view of the news can provide the most accurate and trustworthy account of events.
<snip>
The Three Little Pigs video also serves to legitimise Social Media as an advocate of traditional media and not the enemy. Social Media has given rise to increased citizen journalism, whether it be via words, pictures or videos, broadcast on blogs, social networking sites and so on. This video seeks to bring Social Media into the fold, embracing its merit rather than resisting or fearing it. The video tries to give an idea of how Social Media can be harnessed, complimenting other forms of media, to give a ‘complete picture’ of the news.

School shooting victim never got first paycheck -- now it'll be buried with him

Five months before the high school shooting in Chardon, Ohio, Danny Parmertor did what many boys when they turn 16: He went out looking for his first job. He dreamed of saving up enough money to buy a car.

It took time, but eventually, Ernst Lanes hired Danny as a lane captain. For the last month, Danny spent his weekends helping bowlers with scoring and making sure their bowling balls fit correctly, said his boss, Joe Ernst.

This week, Danny, a junior, was supposed to pick up his first paycheck – $273.50. It wasn’t a lot of money, but he was on his way – maybe just a fraction of the way – to owning his first car.
<snip>
Holding back tears, Bobby Parmertor, Danny's father, told the "TODAY Show": "We’re going to pick up the paycheck and we’re going to bury the paycheck with him."

Dogs Attack Minivan In Search Of A Cat

<snip>
When an Alabama couple came out of their home to find their minivan with its bumper torn apart and blood, scratch marks, and dents all over the exterior, they were stunned. They’d been packing for a fishing trip, and now it looked like a madman had set upon their vehicle.
<snip>
They called 911. Adam Morck said investigators checked out all the damage, including some odd paw prints and bite marks. “[The investigator] looked up like a deer caught in the headlights and said, ‘Guys, I think a dog did this.” According to animal control, the perpetrators were two dogs, and they were after at least one of the Morcks’ cats, who was hiding under the van’s hood.

That cat ran away and hasn’t been seen since the Saturday night incident. The couple’s other cat ran up a tree and stayed there. When firefighters showed up to help get him down, he just went higher up the tree.
<snip>
Adam Morck, who contacted Dogster to fill us in on the details, says animal control told him the the dogs who attacked were a pair of escaped pit bull-mastiffs who broke free from their owners when left tied up by a rope at the nearby hospital. “There was a white one which remains at large, and a red-brown one which they hit with a tranq gun, but he ran away unfazed and they didn’t catch him. The police have not yet given us their names, but once the dogs are captured we will be requesting DNA samples to validate the dogs and make sure appropriate parties are held responsible,” he wrote.

“The pit bulls were human shy and wearing sharp pointed collars, so animal control suspects they were captive bred fighting dogs — which would explain why they’d be capable of doing the damage they did while going after my cat. I have seen a ‘busted’ fighting dog farm years ago, and these poor animals are kept on the brink of starvation at all times to keep them lean and rabidlike at all times.”

I hope they find the owners and tie them to a tree and leave them for days.

Mormons baptized slain reporter Daniel Pearl

Members of the Mormon Church last year posthumously baptized Daniel Pearl, the Wall Street Journal reporter who was captured and killed by terrorists in Pakistan shortly after the Sept. 11 attacks, according to records uncovered by a researcher in Utah.

Helen Radkey, an excommunicated Mormon who combs through the church’s archives, said that records indicate Pearl, who was Jewish, was baptized by proxy on June 1, 2011 at a Mormon temple in Twin Falls, Idaho.

Mormons baptize deceased Jews and members of other religions as part of a rite intended to give them access to salvation.

But the practice has stirred outrage among some Jewish leaders. In 1995, the church, after meeting with Jewish leaders, agreed to stop baptizing Holocaust victims. Current church policy encourages church members to baptize their ancestors, but does not explicitly forbid the baptism of deceased Jews and people of other faiths.

Cameron Diaz, George Clooney, Angelina Jolie Shoot Down Fox News' Jesse Watters At Oscars

Bill O'Reilly sent his notorious ambusher/producer Jesse Watters to the Oscars on Sunday, and Watters, rather predictably, was met with a hostile reception from some of the celebrities on the red carpet.

Angelina Jolie (an object of O'Reilly's concern), on being asked to opine about the state of the union, cooly shot Waters down, saying, "that's a longer discussion than the red carpet."

George Clooney had a fairly cordial discussion with Watters, but snapped at him when he asked if "Obama" was doing a good job.

"Yes, he is," he said. "He's the president of the United States. He's not Obama, he's the President of the United States."

The biggest rejection, though, happened offscreen, as Watters recounted to O'Reilly on Monday. When he approached Cameron Diaz, she saw his Fox News mic and said, "'Oh no, I don't do Fox News.'" Ouch!
