applegrove's JournalHelp! I'm getting a lot of questions on minority rule, and who the Governor General
appoints as Government if there is no majority, all this over weeks in the Canadian forum of DU. The norm is that the party with the most seats, a plurality, forms the Government federally in Canada even if they do not get the majority of the popular support. That is how the Liberals won the last time. It looks like that is how they could win this time. That is how it has always been. Not to be a little Sally Who in Whoville but who are these norm questioners? And why does that scare me? It reminds me of the US. The right wing extremists in the GOP. What do we do? First and only english debate tonight. Advanced voting starts tomorrow.
Don't know. There are a whole host of things the GOP would like to break
Canadian norms about. Governor General has lots of powers. Woops she's aboriginal. Doubt she's going to **** norms up for right wing authoritarians who want to get rid of all treaties and give the election to the Conservative/People's Party when the Liberals/NDP are such a much larger group and an actual majority of voters.
He does know that the Eastern US is going to be very much wetter and
the western US very much drier and people and agriculture are going to have to adapt. Does he know this? So all americans are going to be adapting and it will be glaringly obvious in elections to come. Does he think Democrats are not going to talk about it? Or that people are not going to notice the disasters that surround them? And Red State people are not going to be in a bubble on this topic. It will pop.
Go scorched earth on Republicans Biden. Grrrrrrr RUFF RUFF. Take a bite
out of the pants of the GOP. Maybe GOP base will figure out the only thing the Republicans are offering them is an early death.
Krugman should read this book:
https://www.amazon.ca/Enchanted-America-Intuition-Reason-Politics/dp/022657850Xfinancial anxiety results in people stopping using reason and starting to think through an more emotional lens. Then republicans could really manipulate them. There is regression analysis to this effect. First came the financial anxiety over 20 or 40 years and then the racism and MAGA cult.
If the big $3.5 B infrastructure bill does not pass, Democrats can run on it in 2022.
Can't they?
Carlson tweet:

You know they got so much emotional thinking and voting by squeezing the middle class and filling the base with financial anxiety (which makes people stop thinking rational and start thinking emotional (read Enchanted America)) for 40 years.... maybe they are hoping more chaos will lead to women voting for more agressive men (as women to pick partners who are more aggressive when times are dangerous) like fascists. She's still the greatest.
The run on ivermectin shows that the GOP base is really scared. They
are just blocked from taking other measures, measures that in fact work like masks and the vaccine, by some mental block/loyalty to their tv hosts/politicians. How sick is that. Their tv and podcast hosts, and right wing politicians, are not loyal to them and their health.

Edited to add:
Look at Rand Paul soldering the conspiracy theory in place:

Rand Paul: 'Hatred for Trump' blocking research into ivermectin as COVID-19 treatment
https://thehill.com/homenews/569975-rand-paul-hatred-for-trump-blocking-research-into-ivermectin
BY DOMINICK MASTRANGELO at the Hill
Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) suggested researchers are not pursuing ivermectin as a possible COVID-19 treatment because of their disdain for former President Trump.
"The hatred for Trump deranged these people so much, that they're unwilling to objectively study it," Paul told dozens of constituents at a meeting in a suburb just south of Cincinnati on Friday, the Cincinnati Enquirer reported.
"So someone like me that's in the middle on it, I can't tell you because they will not study ivermectin," the senator added. "They will not study hydroxychloroquine without the taint of their hatred for Donald Trump."
The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) warned Americans last week not to take ivermectin, a drug sometimes used to treat parasitic worm infections in humans and livestock.

People are really afraid but blocked by their leaders in using masks
or vaccines. So they have nowhere to go but lateral. Sad part is some of their leaders are vaxxed up themselves.
