k&r for the empathy that this might engender

I am lucky to be employed right now, and my family is doing ok. But there were times in the past when I was sick and my previous employer had to lay off most of its staff. Back then, I needed the unemployment and Medi-Cal benefits I received.

I never will begrudge another human being accepting public assistance during a time of need. Best of luck to you, ColesCountyDem.

Yes, this is exactly why it's still important. Did we lose the Republic in November of 1963? If so, what should we Americans do now in 2013 to regain, or even improve upon it?
