From the article:

Sheriff Grubbs also noted that some may take this incident as an opportunity to promote gun control; however he felt it is an example of importance of the right to bear arms.

And two pistols so the rifle had to be a lever action. (If there's any sush thing as a 30-30 semi-auto I've never heard of it.) The 1st responding officer was using a AR-15.

Semi or not, 30-30 is on par with 7.62x39 ballistics and he was taking the shot with a revolver. That's still wild taking on a long gun with a pistol.

I misread and thought the bad guy had an AR. I've never heard of a semi 30-30 either.

When Stacy answered a phone call from neighbor, Mr. Brown, he didn't plan on hearing this:

"He said, 'You need to get over here quick, and bring your gun; I got a dead body laying over here in the road.' "

Stacy grabbed his 357 magnum and headed to Brown's RV.
...
"Brown asked me, 'Are you going to shoot at him?' I said, I sure am when I get a good shot," Stacy said.

not just a trigger jerking schmuck.

Tons of respect for him. I've shot steel silhouettes at 100 yards with S&W M&P 9mm but my hit ratio was only around 60-70%. 4 or 5 shots on target while under fire is tremendous. I'm gonna go out on a limb, here, and guess that this man doesn't fluster very easily.

(The 68 yr old was too old to shoot and needed his gun taken away.

A civilian is too poorly trained to be able to hit anything while under stress. He was supposed to miss all his shots and hit lots of innocent folks.

The cops were supposed to mistake him for the bad guy and shoot him.)

In all seriousness, that is some excellent shooting with a handgun.

BTW - He is wearing a cowboy hat.

He must be one of those "southern redneck militia types" that practice shooting human shaped targets at the range.

Man doesn't seem all too shook up about it all either.

Makes me wonder if he's been in the military and been shot at before?

But since you brought it up...hows about a few more "faith-promoting rumors" (or "Bigfoots", for you cynics)?

You know- the ones they can't actually prove, but devoutly believe are true:

"Scary looking semi-automatic rifles are:
useless for hunting
widely used in crime
use 'high-powered' ammunition
are only owned by RW militia wannabees."

"Legal gun owners are:
a small minority of Americans
white racists
hicks
Southerners
Republicans"

"Concealed weapons permit holders are all:
(see descriptions of legal gun owners above)-in addition to
uniquely dangerous
wannabee cops/mall ninjas
liable to snap at any time
will get into shootouts over parking spaces"

"The NRA:
is running a vast organized disinformation campaign here
is outnumbered by gun control supporters
is the Keyser Soze of politics
is not in sync with most gun owners"

I can't think of any more at the moment. Feel free to add your own!

We do not get to retroactively exclude people from ranks of the law abiding, and then act as if our classification is meaningful. That would be like claiming no police officers murder because murder convictions always cost them their badges, whereupon they are no longer police.

This is one of the weakest gun rights arguments.

If this guy had no criminal record and was legally entitled to own weapons, he was law-abiding as I use the term.

(I do not know that this guy actually was law abiding prior to this shooting; my point is strictly addressed to the logical issue.)
