&feature=player_embeddedI bet that is one police officer who is glad law-abiding citizens own firearms.

responded to a tough situation.
To be clear, I don't like any loss of life, human or other but sometimes it is necessary to save others.

Sheriff Grubbs also noted that some may take this incident as an opportunity to promote gun control; however he felt it is an example of importance of the right to bear arms.

(1,018 posts)and who is throwing them. There is one member here that can probably do it at 200 yds with a followup bicycle tire just for good measure.

(15,396 posts)Nothing say saving lives like a 26" x 1.5" tire being rolled at you.

(6,185 posts)That is damn great shooting under stress in anybody's book.

(2,239 posts)When you consider it was a semi-auto long gun vs a wheel gun. Wild.
HALO141
(911 posts)And two pistols so the rifle had to be a lever action. (If there's any sush thing as a 30-30 semi-auto I've never heard of it.) The 1st responding officer was using a AR-15.
Jenoch
(7,720 posts)single-shot .30-.30 with a break action. He bought at a hardware store for $30 about 45 years ago just because he'd never seen one before (or since).
Semi or not, 30-30 is on par with 7.62x39 ballistics and he was taking the shot with a revolver. That's still wild taking on a long gun with a pistol.
I misread and thought the bad guy had an AR. I've never heard of a semi 30-30 either.

"He said, 'You need to get over here quick, and bring your gun; I got a dead body laying over here in the road.' "
Stacy grabbed his 357 magnum and headed to Brown's RV.
...
"Brown asked me, 'Are you going to shoot at him?' I said, I sure am when I get a good shot," Stacy said.

(911 posts)not just a trigger jerking schmuck.
Tons of respect for him. I've shot steel silhouettes at 100 yards with S&W M&P 9mm but my hit ratio was only around 60-70%. 4 or 5 shots on target while under fire is tremendous. I'm gonna go out on a limb, here, and guess that this man doesn't fluster very easily.

(12,072 posts)(The 68 yr old was too old to shoot and needed his gun taken away.
A civilian is too poorly trained to be able to hit anything while under stress. He was supposed to miss all his shots and hit lots of innocent folks.
The cops were supposed to mistake him for the bad guy and shoot him.)
In all seriousness, that is some excellent shooting with a handgun.
BTW - He is wearing a cowboy hat.

(6,185 posts)He must be one of those "southern redneck militia types" that practice shooting human shaped targets at the range.
Man doesn't seem all too shook up about it all either.
Makes me wonder if he's been in the military and been shot at before?

Someone give this man a medal! An Olympic one would fit the bill here...

(768 posts)WOW indeed! Unreal shooting. And clearly he was not pleased that he was forced into this action. Shame on him for defying the stereotype of the bloodthirsty firearm owner!

(15,374 posts)150+ yards is really pushing the edge of both accuracy and effectiveness from a revolver.
Well done, Citizen!

Certainly not as well as this citizen!

(4,286 posts)I'm still waiting for an anti to opine on this gentleman's racial views, his abortion views, his party affiliation and his NRA membership or lack thereof.
Where are all the antis?
Pro-rights folks post in anecdotal threads from the other side; how about a little reciprocity here?

(20,709 posts)Law-abiding gun owners never hurt anyone, because as soon as they do, they cease to be law abiding! It works out great for the talking points!

(12,072 posts)You are lying when you claim that we say that law-abiding gun owners "never" hurt anyone. We admit that a few do, even some who have CCWs do, but that those numbers are very few.

(15,333 posts)But since you brought it up...hows about a few more "faith-promoting rumors" (or "Bigfoots", for you cynics)?
You know- the ones they can't actually prove, but devoutly believe are true:
"Scary looking semi-automatic rifles are:
useless for hunting
widely used in crime
use 'high-powered' ammunition
are only owned by RW militia wannabees."
"Legal gun owners are:
a small minority of Americans
white racists
hicks
Southerners
Republicans"
"Concealed weapons permit holders are all:
(see descriptions of legal gun owners above)-in addition to
uniquely dangerous
wannabee cops/mall ninjas
liable to snap at any time
will get into shootouts over parking spaces"
"The NRA:
is running a vast organized disinformation campaign here
is outnumbered by gun control supporters
is the Keyser Soze of politics
is not in sync with most gun owners"
I can't think of any more at the moment. Feel free to add your own!
friendly_iconoclast
(15,333 posts)See how that works?
Tell ya what- If you like the idea of "precrime prevention", why don't you set an example and just give DHS admin status and telnet access into your computer?
After all, if you have nothing to hide you ahve nothing to worry about...
TPaine7
(4,286 posts)We do not get to retroactively exclude people from ranks of the law abiding, and then act as if our classification is meaningful. That would be like claiming no police officers murder because murder convictions always cost them their badges, whereupon they are no longer police.
This is one of the weakest gun rights arguments.
If this guy had no criminal record and was legally entitled to own weapons, he was law-abiding as I use the term.
(I do not know that this guy actually was law abiding prior to this shooting; my point is strictly addressed to the logical issue.)
HALO141
(911 posts)The Sheriff said they had been unable to find any criminal history on the perp. It is very, very odd for someone to go from 0 to double murderer in one jump.

(813 posts)I keep reading that one can't identify who the bad guy is in a space the size of a movie theater. How the hell could anyone do it from 150 yds. away?
