"Oh, wow. Wow. I can't believe you just said that!"..The claws come out in VT legislature

Paid gun control lobbyists, gets into a tiff with a legislator that is pushing gun control legislation, in open session...

“We need to get national expertise on this before we can approve it,” Wilkinson-Ray said.

Sears appeared to be surprised that Wilkinson-Ray wanted time to study the changes.

“So you have to get a hold of the national organization? Is that your testimony?” he asked.

They go on to say:

“We don’t believe this is an earnest effort to improve the bill,” {paid gun control lobbyist}Wilkinson-Ray told the committee Thursday.

That caused a strong reaction from Sears, who has already displayed his frustration several times this legislative session as his committee has worked on the legislation.

“Oh, wow. Wow. I can't believe you just said that,” he responded. “I think we should take a five-minute break and you should check with your bosses and if you’re sure you want to say that this is not an honest effort.”

“You are disparaging the courts of the state of Vermont as well as the Department of Mental Health. So, when you say it’s not an honest effort, that pisses me off. You don’t want to piss me off because I’m already fed up with this bill,” Sears added.

This made me LOL... No surprise he has to talk to the man that signed his paycheck, As someone who has sat in on state government hearings on this very issue, this sort of thing is a much more common occurrence. I long ago made a OP about the very unprofessional antics of gun control advocates at the Virginia State legislator, especially noteworthy was the college kids making out in the seats behind the speakers stand during testimony, not caring that they were in FULL VIEW of the legislators they were trying to sway. (they failed miserably, I know because I was there, and saw the results first hand)

This is what happens when a side pretends to be and is NOT a true grassroots organization, you are FORCED to pay people to go and argue your case, and since they tend to be more interested in getting paid over actually being " fully invested" in the legislation at hand they tend to say and do these sorts of things.

A person that is on hand that is FULLY invested in the subject at hand, will already know the answers to practically any question that will come up during testimony. They will do so, and NOT EVEN NEED TO BE PAID TO DO IT.......

Was the VA make-out session part of the act, or was the couple that bored?

There was another couple in the hallway.. They had bussed in a lot of college kids to give the gun control side the appearance of numbers, their antics in the halls and meetings did backfire, everyone present noticed, and disgusted comments from the legislators were overheard. They even exasperated some on the gun control side.

I was clear most where their because it was "something to do", there was very little passion for the legislation at hand, and lots for each other..

I made a post in here about it when it happened.

http://www.gunsensevt.org/about
Gun Sense Vermont is an independent, grass-roots organization started by Vermonters, run by Vermonters, and focused on closing the gaps in Vermont’s gun laws that make it too easy for guns to fall into the wrong hands.

Who simply have to check with the national organization to find out what their position is...

so killing them is easier to justify

I say shoot them on sight , just to be safe. No sane person would carry a rifle around a grocery store. Only the insane and the criminally motivated. So, again, I say shoot them on sight, let their bodies rot in the streets as a message to other hell-bent gunners.

Nothing but good could come of this.

I don't agree with your premise that displaying a firearm is protected.

It is a threat which should be dealt with as such.

Harshly and with extreme prejudice.

The committee heard testimony Thursday on an amendment to S.141, a bill that seeks to make it a crime in Vermont for some convicts to possess firearms and would require that people found by a court to be a danger to themselves or others be reported to a federal database.

During the hearing, lobbyist Tyler Wilkinson-Ray of the Necrason Group in Montpelier said his client, Gun Sense Vermont, would need to look further into a proposed amendment. The amendment, according to Judiciary Committee Chairman Dick Sears, D-Bennington, did not change the scope of the bill but incorporated changes from several stakeholders.

Apparently the state senate is ready to approve the amendment but GSV is stonewalling, such as they might, for reasons that apparently even they don't know.

Perhaps they're awaiting instructions from the Mother Ship.

It almost seems like they have to make a long distance call or Skype to some wealthy backer to ask instructions on what they should say or do?

Will somebody please tell Mr. Wilkinson-Ray that he should check with Shannon Watts for Bloomie's private phone number to save time.

You used the plural, not singular, so it wasn't directed at the one person.
I sometimes carry while in town on business, not all the time, but occasionally, so, accordingly, you've labeled be a "necroguniac".

If you believe that the sentence describes you there's nothing I can do about it. Like the time I said that Kory Watkins of Open Carry Tarrant County was wearing his penis on the outside of his clothes and all of the gungeon took it personally.

But can anyone in this thread tell me what the amendment was responsible for the tiff?

And we're the rude ones? We're the problem that gun control can't get traction?
It's stupid, offensive labeling of gun owners like you and your cohorts do that cause us to dig in our heels and fight the gun control orgs. tooth and nail.

Gotta go tend the livestock and get the farm ready for planting.

Have a nice fucking life and stop being so paranoid of those of us that choose to carry.

Funny how that works, huh?

Bad mouth pretty much all law abiding gun owners, including those here on DU, and act surprised when no one wants to bother taking any time to find something you could well find for yourself.

You are the epitome of the tiny little gun control faction on DU and in general, congratulations and have a swell day.

Why do gun control types always use sexual references when talking about people who own firearms? It weird and vaguely disconcerting.

What was your other term? Necroguniacs? I've never even heard that one. Credit for originality, I guess. We're all used to insults from the other group.
