7. What I have never understood about home schooling is this
Teachers are expected to constantly upgrade their educations...to have multiple degrees and loads of experience, but home-schoolers do not have to pass any proficiency tests (or maybe they do?).. Just send off for the materials and they are good to go.. I think there are state agencies who do "check on them", but with budget cuts, that's got to be lacking in many places.

I'm sure that most parents would be willing to and probably do hire tutors for the subjects they are lacking in, but I always wonder how many do not, and what their kids are actually learning.

We hear about the successful ones and every so often we hear about the horrible ones, but how many "middle-of-the-roaders" are there?

11. I think you missed the memo concerning home schooling.
it goes something like this; Keep your kids home and let them read magazines and books that you approve of, ask questions, collect tax dollars. buy blackboard or whiteboard, write words on it. Have kids define words, if you aren't satisfied with their definitions, tell them they will not pass unless they use your definition. collect tax dollars. Write mathmatic problems on black/white board, tell kids to figure out what the geometric angle of an obtuse triangle would be (act like you know), Collect tax dollars from the state, have plenty of recess and lunch time.collect tax dollars. Send kids out to socialize with other kids, wonder why they come home crying? Collect tax dollars from the state

Tell kids how socialism will never work and how they have to do everything on their own without tax dollars from the state.

I don't know of any home schoolers or kids that do that. To me it's a real creepy way of not educating children.
