Kirsti Johanson of Madison (left) and Erin Crawley of Madison had their knitting needles confiscated before they were allowed to enter the state Capitol. They were planning on knitting with a group calling themselves "Knitters for Knegotiation" who have had organized "knit-ins" at the Capitol for the past few weeks. Johanson contacted her state representative when she saw that other knitters entered with the building with their needles. Her representative is Brett Hulsey, who helped the women retrieve their items and bring them into the Capitol. Knitting needles are permitted inside the Capitol. The women of the group are knitting hats for the 14 Democratic senators who have been missing, as well as for their state reps.
