U.S. tells Gaddafi it is time to go as revolt closes in
Reuters) - Muammar Gaddafi's grip on Libya looked ever more tenuous on Saturday, as his police abandoned parts of the capital Tripoli to a popular revolt that has swept the country and the United States bluntly told him he must go.

In the oil-rich east around the second city of Benghazi, freed a week ago by a disparate coalition of people power and defecting military units, a former minister of Gaddafi announced the formation of an "interim government" to reunite the country.

At Tripoli in the west, the 68-year-old Brother Leader's redoubt was shrinking. Reuters correspondents found residents in some neighborhoods of the capital barricading their streets and proclaiming open defiance after security forces melted away.

Western leaders, their rhetoric emboldened by evacuations that have sharply reduced the number of their citizens stranded in the oilfields and cities of the sprawling desert state, spoke out more clearly to say Gaddafi's 41-year rule must now end.

It is not just the US by the way. We are moving towards something interesting and that I know many here may have trouble with. But I will not be too shocked if there is intervention, at the very least humanitarian. Leaders are crossing T's and dotting I's. This does not mean I like it, but that is what is happening.

1. Gadaffi killed Americans in the Lockerbe jet take - I'd be willing to go get him!

2. They may try a JDAM as I tried to explain in another thread
trick is... making sure your target has him in there, physically.

3. Envoy claims Libyans set up caretaker government
WASHINGTON (AP) -- Libya's top envoy to the U.S. claimed Saturday that opponents of Moammar Gadhafi's regime are rallying behind efforts to establish an alternative government led by a former Libyan minister. He said the international community should back the movement.

The claim by Ambassador Ali Aujali couldn't be immediately verified and it was unclear what support the "caretaker government" led by ex-Justice Minister Mustafa Abdel-Jalil commanded.

But Aujali said the U.S. and other countries could accelerate Gadhafi's exit by supporting Abdel-Jalil.

"He is a very honest man, a man with dignity," Aujali said. "I hope this caretaker government will get the support of Libyans and of the international community."

So, what is the definition of the word 'supporting' as used up above?
Wondering what kind of support he means that would accelerate Gadhafi's exit?
Would the 'whole Libyan army' turn on Gadhafi if the U.S. and other countries support Aujali?

4. First step
Edited on Sun Feb-27-11 04:05 AM by nadinbrzezinski
RECOGNIZE this new government as the official government, that gets rid of a few pesky legal problems... watch for official recognition from one nation state to be followed by others.

2.- Get permission from THEM to fly into their air space, if they want us to get rid of Qadaffi, since he is NO LONGER the head of state, he is toast.

3.- USE a JDAM or Spec Ops to take care of it... or take him prisoner.

And yes, they are hoping MOST of the army will turn on Qadaffi. members of his tribe, I suspect will not.

This is real world based on history.

Oh and I am sure once recognition and all that, they will also try to offer HUMANITARIAN and Technical aid, especially if Qadaffi manages to light up oil fields.

It is moving in that direction any way. It is not whether I like it or not. It just is.

5. Qaddafi might have another underground bunker somewhere else
like the one of his that Al Jazeera showed today

Here's the video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7L1hWPGVcB0

p.s. It might take a long time to find him.

6. The tricky part will be finding him
but the encirclement is getting closer, and the noose is tightening. Him putting a bullet into himself would not surprise me. His behavior reminds me a little of Hitler at the end of WW II.

7. One scenario is he flees to his tribal lands and causes unrest down there.
