I think Chris Christie is about to step in it
he's going the way of Walker.

Did you see his speech just now on The Last Word?

7. If he continues this Divide and Conquer . Playing one part of the
Middle Class against another can be made to sink his
Presidential Hopes if the public is made aware of this
devious old Republican tactic.

I had given him more credit. I thought he was smart enough
to make an argument to prove his point.

Dividing the two parts of the working class so they fight
each other will not leave him looking above the fray.
Just a dirty schemer.

New Jerseyites do your thing.

So proud to have cast my first NC vote for President Obama. Our state went Blue '08. :bounce:

6. Yep, just saw it.
These slobs are walking in lock-step. WI, OH, TN, KY, & perhaps FL. I just want to know WHO is coming up with their strategy. These new govs aren't smart enough to come up w/this on their own.

WHO is their LEADER?
Any ideas?

It is the Koch brothers’ playbook they are following.
And that is also who is funding them and their campaigns.

19. There's a network of think-tanks and public policy groups
It goes back to the 70's and has been well-funded by the right-wing foundations (Coors, Scaife, etc.) In addition, there are various umbrella groups that hold them together and help to move the talking points from one to another. ALEC -- which there was a thread on earlier today -- has also played a role for over 30 years in supplying pre-written bills to state legislatures.

The right-wing legal foundations are also important, as are larger groups like the Heritage Foundation and the Cato Institute, along with certain conservative colleges.

Many of these groups provide funding to nurture promising right-wing college students and give them prestigious roles as soon as they graduate, so that by the time they're 30 they're showing up as "experts." And those individuals move freely from one group to another, thanks to fellowships and other positions endowed by wealthy donors.

The overall result is a tightly-coordinated and smoothly-functioning machine that's able to spend years refining its positions and arguments and insert them into the public dialog when the moment appears ripe. And there is nothing like it on the left, which is why we're always playing catch-up.

37. It certainly has roots in the Birch Society, by way of Coors and the CNP
But the Birchers were kind of marginal at the time, even on the right. It wasn't until the 70's that the whole network began to be put together in a way that could pass as politically and academically respectable.

Right Wing Watch and SourceWatch are both good places for information on these groups -- but they're set up as wikis, which means it's not easy to get a sense of the overall network.

I also see that there's now something called the Vast Right Wing Wiki that seems to be in its early stages but might potentially be very useful. (http://rightwing.wikia.com/wiki/Main_Page) It says, "The aim of this Wiki is to find and document the links between Right Wing people, lobbying organizations, think tanks, religions and denominations, businesses and foundations." And its current projects include the Heritage Foundation and the Business Roundtable. Something to keep an eye on, anyway.

11. Damn. I missed it. Caught C Booker, though, who was pretty decent.
If we had to have a middle-of-the-road centrist for a President, I think I would have preferred someone of Mr. Booker's type.

I hope Crisco Christie steps in it but good.

13. Booker sounded like a dino who was mightily scared when LO asked him about *fairly* taxing the rich
I thought Booker was going to crap his pants. He started talking until he babbled non stop and used up all his time. Clever little dino who failed to impress.

16. Look around us. This is what passes for a Democrat nowadays.
I agree that he seemed nervous on the issue of raising taxes on the rich, however he did concede that the very wealthy should not be receiving tax breaks.

To see the center-right version of this type of politician, we'd have to look at a Harold Ford, Jr.

one the the greatest disappointments in politics. He had potential.

When I see him, I think of the movie "The Graduate" .... and the line about "there's a future in plastics."

35. He truly did. His squandered an admirable political legacy.
I'm actually happy he lost the Senate seat in TN. I fear he would have done a lot more damage within the political fabric of the party to the policies that were actually passed by the Pelosi/Reid team.

This is what happens when people from our side are bought, paid for, and owned by corporate interests.

But, Christie's foul odor makes the pollution in Newark seem as though cleansed with spring rain.
