DANBURY -- A South Street man accused of a racially motivated assault of a black man over the weekend is scheduled to appear in state Superior Court here Tuesday.
Paul Arbitelle, 37, of South Street, remained in police custody on $25,000 bond Monday after his arrest for attacking the man, who was talking to a third party on his cell phone Saturday evening.
Police said Arbitelle, whom they described as highly intoxicated, apparently thought the victim was speaking to him.
Police said two friends came to the victim's assistance and fought Arbitelle off before retreating into the residence. Arbitelle remained outside, shouting racial slurs and threats, and began fighting with police when they arrived, police said.
