PG&E wants consumers to help pay for San Bruno explosion
Source: San Jose Mercury News

PG&E on Thursday said its costs from the Sept. 9 San Bruno natural-gas explosion could exceed $760 million by the end of this year -- $150 million more than previous estimates -- and that it will likely want some of that expense passed on to consumers.

... Much of that expense should be covered by the company's insurance policy, they said. But Kent Harvey, PG&E's chief financial officer, suggested that the company may ask the California Public Utilities Commission to pass on some of the cost to PG&E customers.

... However, consumer advocates have vowed to fight any attempt by the company to shunt costs related to the San Bruno disaster onto its ratepayers.

"We don't want to see PG&E scrimp on safety," said Mindy Spatt, a spokeswoman for The Utility Reform Network in San Francisco. "On the other hand, we want to see PG&E take responsibility for any and all mistakes that led up to the San Bruno disaster."

5. Everyone should implement grid-tied rooftop solar panels as soon as possible
Make it hard for them to gouge consumers for their mistakes.

We have the same crap going on here in San Diego. SDG&E is going to have to cough up $750 million in settlements for damage from a fire started by their equipment. Guess how they're going to collect the money.

6. Certainly shouldn't come from the pockets of the stockholders
who always push the corp to give them all the money and not waste it on things like maintenance and safety!

After all: they earned their dividends ... by ... being rich, I guess.

9. Starting in January Georgia Power added $14 a month
for a nuclear plant that MAY come online in 2017. Typical republican legislature mentality, they are charging us now to SAVE us money later.

The only thing wrong is that A) old folks might no9t be around in 6 years, and B) ad in BIG Business does NOT have to pay because, well, the repugs wouldn't want to upset the money cart.

Taxpayers friend my ass.
