'Thousands' of protesters may have been tortured: report

Egypt's secret police, long accused of torturing suspects and intimidating political opponents of President Hosni Mubarak, received training at the FBI's facility in Quantico, Virginia, even as US diplomats compiled allegations of brutality against them, according to US State Department cables released by WikiLeaks.

One cable, dated November 2007 and published by the Telegraph, describes a meeting between the head of the SSIS, Egypt's secret police, and FBI deputy director John Pistole, in which the secret police chief praises Pistole for the "excellent and strong" cooperation between the two agencies. (Pistole has since been appointed head of the TSA.)

2. From Suskind's "One Percent Doctrine"
... for specific identity they needed a DNA match from a family member. Zawahiri's brother, Mohammed, was in custody in Cairo. A CIA operations manager called a chief at Egyptian intelligence.

He explained the situation.

The Egyptian listened. "No problem," he said. "We'll get his brother, cut off his arm, and send it over."

"No ... Christ!" the agency man stammered. "No, just a vial of blood. A vial of blood's all we need."

3. Republicans want to keep their 'Friendly Dictators' up to speed on the latest techniques
That way when those prisoners that are a little too hot to handle, but still need to be interrogated in the interest of National Security, get nothing but the best.

Bush didn't just torture prisoners in Guantanamo Bay, the majority of escapades were handled by foreign governments.

4. We torture so the whole world can torture.
Id like to water board the world
And furnish it with a rope
Grow apple trees to hang it from
Wearing snow-white leather gloves

I'd like to teach the world to torture
In perfect harmony
Hear it cry and beg for life
And hang it from a tree

I'd like to see the world for once
All standing whip in hand
And hear them echo through the hills
"Torture throughout the land!"

Id like to water board the world
And furnish it with a rope
Grow apple trees to hang it from
Wearing snow-white leather gloves

I'd like to teach the world to torture
In perfect harmony
Hear it cry and beg for life
And hang it from a tree

5. When will the American people rise up against their government's
criminal activities around the globe? The support for torturers and dictators that now no one can deny? Are we going to say 'we didn't know' when the time comes, as it always does, for these criminals in our government to be held accountable?

I am outraged at what I have learned over the past several years about this government's history of support for some of the world's most evil men. But I thought electing Democrats would stop it and the criminals would be held accountable. But it's way worse than I thought. If we remain silent we are accessories to all these crimes. We've witnessed now, thanks to the Wikileaks cables, without a shadow of a doubt, that President Obama stepped in to protect George Bush and his gang of criminals and torturers from prosecution in Spain, eg. So, now that we know it's both parties, who do we put in power to stop it?

I am at a loss.

7. AFAICT the training wasn't in relation to torture techniques
After all that is the CIA's turf. Just as the FBI overlooked CIA torture they appear to have done the same with the Egyptian SSIS.
