Our lovely NOOZ... re the Koreas
so the CBS nightly dares tell me, at minute 25 by the way, that tomorrow we will have an EMERGENCY meeting of the UN Security Council over the Koreas. It was called by Russia, which is just a tad worried about the escalation... but you'd think that would headlne the news or be news item number two, after DADT.

A good editor would have done that, but hell, whatever... this is the nature of our nooz... things keep escalating, and yes we could have a resumption of hostilities, but who the hell cares? Oh and Russia calling for it is funny given the history of HOW we ended up in the Koreas under the UN banner but that is another story.

2. I did not say it is a lie
just how it is reported. If they could they would fully ignore it. I keep up with the BBC. Have the nooz on and I am reminded why I usually don't.

3. Sorry - meant 'no lie' as to your assessment.
I have been following this story on another site all day, watching to see when it would hit US Media. Your CBS report is the first I have seen, some 12 hours later.

6. You know as I was putting the finishing touches on some
minis.. the sudden rise on what to do in a nuclear strike are starting to take on a new meaning. This is not about AQ... they don't have the capacity. it is about N. Korea.

10. Welcome to DU.
Use the Smilies lookup table linked in the post page to do things like:

Say :hi: to newcomers and :spank: people who missread you. And give your feelings of various subjects: Sara Palin :puke: Obama :grr: anti-vaxers :tinfoilhat: and of course virtually everyone you will meet here :banghead: :pals: :banghead: :grouphug: :banghead:  :banghead: :toast: :banghead:

And alway tell people when you're using :sarcasm: or they won't realise and they will truly believe that your proposal to issue teachers with cattleprods and stockwhips is deadly serious.

5. The MSM is either derelict in it's duty or performing as-designed, depending on...
...whether you view it as information tool of the people or the government and corporations. There is...arguably...a certain kind of pattern with the media...where very serious, very dangerous issues and topics are almost completely ignored until they're unable to be ignored any further.

Regardless of what I think of Obama, which is not all that much at the moment, I'm not entirely sure we have a good Plan A going right now if actual hostilities break out on the peninsula. I hope we do. But the fact that the U.S. has been blowing off negotiations implored by China and now Russia makes me concerned that some glue-sniffing generals might not think it such a bad thing if war broke out there. North Korea is not Iraq and it's not Afghanistan. The South Koreans government are arguably freaked out pretty badly and maybe itching for a fight too. I have no idea. All one really needs to do is to read up on the Axe Murder Incident and the resulting Operation Paul Bunyan to know that the South Korean military can be just as fucking crazy as the North Koreans.

By the way, Jesus Christ, "Operation Paul Bunyan"? Oh Lord.

Anyway, I've got major disappointments with the President's course of actions in regards to us here at home- not to mention the continuing fiasco overseas in Iraq and Afghanistan/Pakistan.

If he/the U.S. government is going to play some goading LIHOP game with the North Koreans using cocksure South Koreans as a proxy, then it leaves the realm of making a pissed-off post on DU about it and enters into the realm of people slapping around nucler powers because they "think we can take 'em in a fight".

I did not sign on to live under a government run by Buck Turgidsons.

There is absolutely no reason to kowtow to a personality like Kim Jong-il but neither is their any reason to go out of one's way to facilitate a nuclear conflict through careful pruning of action and inaction. Somewhere out there, maybe somewhere on this very board, people believe the best thing that can happen is for the U.S. to take on North Korea by goading them into a military action or war that we can win. Russia and China appear to be wondering just exactly what the fuck we may be playing at, right now, as well.

To that I say, you may be right. You may be. But you're rolling some damned big dice and if you lose your bet the jet stream is going to be carrying some pretty bad karma, among other things.

8. I don't think anybody rational wants a war in the peninsula
as to the generals, they know we will lose easily 15K troops in the first few hours.

No this is no joke.

But our press ignores things on purpose.

Why I reported on it... it was kind of... m'kay... as an editor I'd have the debate, DADT... this, DADT, this... to lead it.

11. I am glad my uncle isn't here anymore. He did not believe in the
Korean War he fought in the first time.
