How the Supreme Court could once again put a rethug in the White House
Some of you have read about the attempt in Arizona and other states to keep Obama off the 2012 ballot on "birther" issues. That is, they want to pass laws stating that presidential candidates be able to produce a birth certificate to prove their eligibility.

Since the Supreme Court is the final arbiter for these kind of disputes, its possible that once again, they could determine the outcome of an election. And we know how well that worked last time.

1. Obama's BC has been certified by the state in which
he was born.

The SC may have the likes of Scalia and Alito and Thomas on it, but they've refused to hear the bullshit every time it's come to them.

But who knows. Maybe Scalia or Thomas will be forced quit for health or other reasons and Obama will get to replace a right-winger.

6. I'm aware of that
But that still hasnt deterred the far right from doing everything they can to confuse the issue. Part of me wonders if this is their goal, to get this to the SCOTUS and hope for a repeat.

9. Me too. You know, after 2000 and 8 years of Bush/Cheney,
I've ceased to be shocked by when people in this country fall for even the most outrageous bullshit. Remember the Swift Boat Liars?

2. Honestly
I wouldn't put it past them at this point. They will do whatever they can to win. Personally I'm just hoping the Conservative justices all retire soon. I mean Scilla doesn't seem to be in the best of shape, but I could be wrong.

4. They cannot enforce such a law.
The "long form" is not available to all natural born citizens.

In Mississippi you cannot get your long form, the only form available is the short form.

Not all the states keep the same records.

What the state where the person was born has determined to be a valid birth certificate or proof of birth is what determines the status of the citizen. Not what Arizona wants.

5. Can someone explain the birther movement to me?

Why are they still saying he has no birth certificate( based on what) ? How could Obama have gotten in without producing one? I understand they hate him for other reasons, but what are they going on here?

have been some who have seen it and also the new governor says that if anyone wants to see it they now have to pay $100. lol! They may as well make money off of attempts to smear Obama. It is all meant to "put doubt in people's minds".
Welcome btw.

13. COLB vs. so-called "long form."
Certificate of live birth issuable anytime upon request of the subject person whose place, date and time of birth within the state is required to be proved for any official purpose, giving summary data from the registry maintained by the Hawaii Department of Health.

Versus the original (or photograph of original) birth certificate created contemporaneously with birth of the subject person, filed with the Hawaii Department of Health for inclusion in the registry, and containing all information upon which a COLB can be issued pursuant to future request.

14. Obama's Grandmother, Who Lives in Kenya,
gave a radio interview in which she stated her grandson was born in Kenya. It was immediately established that she misunderstood the question and was saying his brother was born in Kenya. But even though it was corrected within the same interview, some right-wingers decided it was more likely that Obama's grandmother had let the truth slip and unveiled a massive left-wing conspiracy.

Those suspicions were amplified by claims that the Hawaiian birth certificate was not the original document and that there is supposed to be a more official version. It doesn't seem to occur to birthers that any conspiracy powerful enough to counterfeit records of birth announcements in the newspapers, much less the short form of the birth certificate, could just as easily counterfeit the supposed long form.

8. How will this keep the President off the ballot?
All he has to do is show the Certificate and its a moot point. The governor of Hawaii says he saw it, so whats the big deal?

Besides if you are really concerned, go to tea bagger sites and encourage a 3rd party candidate. Split the opposition vote, and we win again. I remember giving money to Ross Perot for just the same reason.

(on a side note I could not imagine anyone wanting to listen to Perot's annoying, nasal voice for 4 years. I tried to listen, and I had to turn that awful sound off after a minute...it was that bad! If you young-uns have no idea what I am talking about, You Tube the name and you will be as disgusted as I.)

11. Couldn't listen to Ross long enough to say one way or the other.
But lets face it, even broken clocks are right twice a day.
