In Bilbao the people lovingly pronounce it poopee...it's a little startling to our ears...

28. Yes, and isn't it SO Twombly? I knew a Twombly fan like me would
be here on DU!

I saw his "Ah, the peonies" in the Guggenheim in Bilbao, fall of 2008. What an experience! The whole museum was a work of art but this Twombly exhibit truly was transformative for me...

Have you been able to see any of his works in person? I am going to see his new ceiling at the Louvre in Paris when I go on an art intensive there in April...

30. There is something so strangely familiar
about #1 but I have no guess at all and am willing to bet there is no reason I would ever have seen it or know anything about it. It intrigues me, looks like doodles or the beginning of something with afterthoughts or maybe a collection of ideas but it is oddly complete.

Love the Twombly. I guessed all around it then cheated so I could not say anything. ;)

47. Of course! What a terrific way of finding it!
I was going to give a hint: Fifth floor of MoMA, but I thought it was too "inside" NYC for most folks here...it is an excellent example of surrealism in the 20s and 30s of European art...but he DOES resemble Dali in that regard...

In #4, the artist anticipated "pop art" according to one art historian.

Hope this helps...
