the Mubarak goons "melted away" when night fell.

ETA: She feels the pro-Democracy group is still energized and ready for the "Day of Departure". Marching to the Palace isn't logistically easy - they will be exposed if they march along the road toward Palace - it's about 2 km away from the center of Cairo.

2. Yeah, I added a note on that -- that's essentially what the reporter is saying, too.
