WASHINGTON -- Though the Republican Party's stance on same-sex marriage faced criticism from within its own ranks following the 2012 election, this year's session of the top conservative gabfest will not include the two leading conservative gay rights groups.

GOProud and the Log Cabin Republicans will not be participating in the annual Conservative Political Action Conference, top executives from both groups confirmed on Wednesday.

"We were kicked out last year and nothing has changed and we wont be at CPAC," GOProud's Jimmy LaSalvia said in an interview. "The last communication I've had from them is that we were kicked out. Nothing has changed."

"CPAC is a private organization and it can do whatever it wants -- as a libertarian, there's simply no other position for me to take on that -- and I will attend CPAC this year, as I have in the past," said Liz Mair, a Republican strategist and GOProud advisory board member. "But like a lot of conservatives and libertarians I know, I will do so with much less enthusiasm than I did a few years back in part because the impression CPAC is giving off, and doing too little to alter in my opinion, is that it's not really keeping pace as the conservative movement modernizes."

1. The two parties are becoming so much alike on money.

If you don't like the Republican side of the culture wars, why are you still there?

It would probably be a lot easier to move Democrats further right on economic issues than to move neo theos off their control trips.

I'm not sure what Huffpo is talking about. The Log Cabin Republicans have been advocating from within the Republican party for gay rights for decades and GOProud since 2009 (and woe betide Rightist Democrats if Republican members of the GLBT succeed in reforming their party from within).

Just as an aside, I wonder why GOProud found it desirable to splinter from Log Cabin Republicans? I think both groups might be better off forming a cultural issues left of the Party.

Then again, if you are socially left or even socially moderate, why are you Republican these days? :shrug:

2. I do not understand

why Log Cabin Republicans even exist. I've heard some of them interviewed. It didn't clear anything up for me.

The social issues are just so much smoke screen. They use these issues, like abortion, gay rights and guns to keep us divided to we can be manipulated. It works very well.

As far as guns, Democrats have done precious little about them in years. They will do something now, if the Republicans let them, but it won't be a lot.

If you're a woman who needs an abortion, it ain't nuttin' that some Republicans require a vaginal ultrasound. But, Democrats are not doing much on this front, either. All that mocking of the guy in Indiana and the Dem who won would allow abortion ONLY in cases of rape and incest. No other exception, even for health of the mother, which even Republican Sandra Day O'Connor required. Big whoop.

If you're gay, though, repeal of DADT and a POTUS saying he supports gay marriage ain't nuttin. It's a sea change.
