I just read something that leaves me speechless on that "Obama is a Progressive" thread
Edited on Sun Dec-18-11 01:47 AM by Blue_In_AK
I really don't think I can go back to that place.

181. For some of the PL, President Obama will never be progressive enough

even if he'd been able to bash Congress over the head and gotten medicare for all, they'd come back with, "well, he hasn't expanded services, has he? So he's NO progressive".

Instead, they praise people like fake-Liberal and Ron Paul lackey, Glenn Greenwald, and Goldman-Sachs Michael Moore (who benefit from a Republican in the WH - all that rage by the Left bring in HUGE $$ for them - not so with Obama in the WH) who play them like a fine-tuned instrument.

The good thing is, they're in the minority, just like the TBaggers. Leftwing Puritans who'll immediately vote for Ron Paul cuz he *says* he'll make weed legal - although, of course, they know he'll need to bash Congress over the head in order to make that happen, but they're certain he can do it! - live in La-La-Land.

Thank you for reminding people who live in the REAL world the accomplishments of this president despite unprecedented GOP obstructionism and own party non-cooperation.

He will most certainly win a second term.

12. Acceptable to whom? It is what it is. Weed has nearly godlike status here at DU.
Christianity and it's god can be attacked and pilloried with impunity, but question the purity and miracle making status of the DU manna and you will be stoned, but not in a good way.

If Obama wanted the instant approval of DU, legalizing weed just might do that for many.

21. That's a bit simplistic, to say the least. I don't care about weed
eg, never smoked, but I do care about the results of the drug laws. The racism that locks up African American in disproportionate numbers using the Great War on Drugs as an excuse.

The beginning of the destruction of Civil Liberties that resulted from this failed 'war' continued now by the Great War on Terror.

People do not have to use drugs to oppose the horrific destruction of civil liberties and the growth of a huge Crime Syndicate resulting in the murders on a daily basis that are happening that could be ended if drugs were legalized.

These laws have created a massive police state, and funding for it, with zero results as far as dealing with the problem of drug use, if anything it has only increased it since the motivation for profit is huge.

To reduce the support for legalizing pot to such a simplistic motive, is hard to understand. And since a majority of people across party lines support ending the drug war, why is the government not listening?

I think we know the answer to that.

Oh and Michael Moore and Glenn Greenwald are American Patriots, they are true progressives who care deeply about social justice and have worked tirelessly for it.

I don't know who made the comment in the OP, but that is pure rightwing propaganda which has been around for years and while it should be, it is no longer to see it posted on a democratic board.

However, I am for leaving it for all to see. If this kind of mentality ends up prevailing in the Democratic Party, then people need to know so they can make informed decisions as to what should be done about it.

4. In my opinion, I wouldn't give up DU3 just because of one person's comment

DU3 is huge, with tons of forums/groups/DUers

Not everyone is going to be happy with 100% of the comments or 100% of the people,
but that's what makes DU great - having a bunch of folks with differing opinions,
and being able to state his or her own opinion.

Just my opinion, and I'm stickin' to it :)

he hasn't been progressive since then. word doesn't even belong anywhere near him. He's a moderate. Period. Clinton was a Progressive. his wife. eh maybe a Moderate Progressive...

But yeah DU3 needs to fix their PR. although .... I won't wonder who's gonna be cool and hit alert. I'd almost think about it on that one above. :P

and indeed plenty of groups and if I walk right on in with a bunch of atheists and I don't know it and make a stupid comment..... they need a bit more control if that really was a closed group. like how did I get in.

9. Well, you might take personal offense, but I don't see anyone specifically mentioned in his post.
There are a lot of sweeping generalizations coming from both sides. Deal with it. The fact that you lost the alert 5-0 should tell you that you might not be in the majority over there. Perhaps on 10 different juries, you might win one, though. At DU3. Here on DU2, you may well be in the majority. Whether you could field a 6 man jury at any one time, that might be a problem, though.

I don't get these "drag the post over from DU3 so we can autopsy and/or flog it on DU2". I could pick some posts here, cut and paste them over there, and then add my own editorial comment for a little levity...but I wouldn't do that. Did you invite the poster to come over and discuss it? Not everyone at DU3 is looking in the rearview mirror these days. I don't think the poster would be pleased to have their posts being critiqued here without their knowledge. At the very least, you ought to be sending that person a PM so he can come over and discuss/defend it, if he or she so chooses. This is the 2nd time I've seen this...it's a shame that posters at the real DU ought to be wondering if they also need to be checking this site, the obsoleted one, just to see if their thoughts are being picked apart over here.

42. the "real" DU???
Sorry, but this place is STILL DU. DU3 is just the new DU. BOTH places are DU. Obviously, the admins don't have any problem with DU2 still being used since they haven't shut it down. WHY in the world are some posters having fits about DU2 still being open and acting as though anyone still using it is somehow an enemy? You're using it yourself after all. How do you reconcile that? How is it acceptable to you to flog anyone here when you've made your own flogging comments at DU3 about the people using DU2 over at DU3... and when YOU are still using DU2 your own self at that???

Jesus barking Christ... consider yourself as "old and out of my way" for me as well. At least now I can FINALLY do that at DU3 when it would always have been so simple to do only here.

Oh well, it would be a pretty boring discussion board if everyone agreed with each other or put everyone on ignore.

As to my name, I happened to be listening to a song while logging in for the 1st time to DU, "Old and In the Way", by, IMHO, the greatest bluegrass band of our generation...Old and In the Way!

Let me share the lyrics of the song with you...as a parting gift! Perhaps even appropriate for DU2.

Old and in the way

Old and in the way
That's what I heard him say
They used to heed the words he said
But that was yesterday
Coal will turn to gray
And youth will fade away
They'll never care about you
Cause you're old and in the way

As I hear tell he was happy
He had his share of friends and were kind
Now those friends have all passed on
He don't have a place called home
Looking back to a better day
When you're old and in the way

* Refrain

When just a boy he left his home
Thought he'd have the world on a string
Now the years have come and gone
Through the streets he walks alone
Like the old dog gone astray
He's just old and in the way

* Refrain

They'll never care about you
Cause you're old in the way

16. I've only had one incarnation.
I'm Blue_in_AK everywhere I post, and I've been Blue_in_AK for seven years. I'm not about to change my name now simply for the privilege of being continually hippie-punched at the "new" DU, whose only purpose now seems to be to shout down any criticism of the president. I understand you have an election to win, but this doesn't seem to be the way to win friends and influence people. I've often thought that Obama's more strident supporters (of which there are many at DU) do more to drive people away from supporting him than Glenn Greenwald or Michael Moore or Jane Hamsher could ever think of doing.

I'm done here, at least for the next year. You can call it drama if you want -- I call it self-preservation.

I was married to an abusive man for 17 years. I recognize verbal bullying when I see it, and I don't wish to subject myself to it. Lesson learned.

Carry on.

15. Hey,
don't leave. I read that DU3 post and all I gotta say is, "There is no law against being stupid."

Ron Paul is a libertarian for less than 1/2 the population. He may legalize weed, but NO abortions allowed. Liberty and freedom for males ONLY.

It's a fucked up world...and after 8 years of W, stupidity is now very cool! Intelligence is bad...I get, "Hey, who do you think you are?" if I use a word w/ 3 syllables.

I ignored the 'old and get out of my way'....do the same.

And the dude over at DU3, Ignore when the function is up and ready. I'm going to wait until that function is available before I go over.

I, for one, don't believe that weed is what people will vote for...it would be nice but I certainly don't see it as a major one-issue vote.

Come on...I know how you feel. The Willfully Ignorant can get on my last nerve...Ignore. Keep your sanity.

'Drama' is the new key word for "uh-oh, a passionate person who cares about democracy and uses 3 syllable words.' Whenever I get it, I ignore it.

You could answer them with that little 'dunce' emoticon.

Hey, if the truth hurts the PL too much, then so be it. But facts are facts even if you don't like them.

Michael Moore has publicly refused to support President Obama's reelection because he's too "centrist". Remember also he claimed Gore was no different than Bush. I bet he's sorry for saying that now, but then again, he made TENS of MILLIONS of dollars off those dark Bush years, so maybe he's not so sorry. Would you be?

Here's what a top Hollywood producer has to say about "phoney Michael Moore":

One of the many things that bug me about the industry in which I work is the large population of phonies who claim to be liberal, caring, green and unaffected by their wealth and fame but in reality are just as self-centered and addicted to their huge, over-air-conditioned living spaces and private planes as those at whom they point their fingers. And none is more phony and finger-pointing than Michael Moore.
http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/michael-moore-occupy-wall-street-goldman-sachs-257186

It's a very interesting piece. If you have the guts, you should read it.

I don't blindly follow everything President Obama does. I know he isn't as leftie as I would like him to be, but I also acknowledge it's not entirely his fault. He's bound by the Congress we'd sent him and since a lot of Liberals were made so disenchanted by their PL leaders and stayed home November 2010, well, he's got a WORSE Congress to work with than he had before, yet the PL are demanding he go more to the left?!? WTF??

Oh, and yeah...and his last movie, "Sicko" was funded by money from the Goldman Sachs pot that TWC used based on Fahrenheit 9/11 - you know? That movie that made tens of millions because BUSH was in the WH and the Congress was wholly controlled by REPUBLICANS.

Moore stands to make huge profits if there is a REPUBLICAN in the WH NOT when there's a Democrat in the WH. Sicko made significantly LESS than Fahrenheit 9/11. It was released in 2007. When again did the Democrats win back the House and Senate?

Moore is getting desperate, he's even suing TWC for $2.7 million additional profits for Fahrenheit 9/11 after he'd already gotten $19.8 million. It's all in that piece.

And, you're welcome.

Moore is getting desperate, he's even suing TWC for $2.7 million additional profits for Fahrenheit 9/11 after he'd already gotten $19.8 million. It's all in that piece.

And thanks for letting me know you copied and pasted my post to try and ridicule, and you're welcome for the piece I've posted above.

40. I'm sure the professional left is feeling all warm and fuzzy inside too.
