Someone explain DU3 to me... Why all the fuss?

I honestly don't understand... There's only one design issue with the new DU that I can see, and that's the big empty column on the left side of the page. It's extremely distracting.

Other than that, what? Why are so many people claiming to be jumping ship? I am not trolling. I really want to know, in case I missed something sinister...

some people seem afraid that the new system will stifle freedom of speech - especially criticism of President Obama or the Democratic Party. But anyone taking a look at DU 3 will see that the same aggressive debates are still occurring, like this one that was recommended to the front page:

It's a BIG tent, all kinds of viewpoints here and it extends to how the pages look and how navigation works.

5. I don't like the thing I learned about facebook tracking non-FB members, for one.

I don't like the loss of free discussion in the large forum(s) where everyone will go see everything. I don't like the freezing of topics for being 'off-topic' without any clear idea of where-to-go-FIND an "appropriate" place to put a post you want to put up. I don't know about the jury stuff and the mods-vs-hosts stuff.

I came here originally and kept coming back because of what I saw here. I would never have bothered looking around the new place had it not been for the closure of DU here. I do not see any reason to sign up to be a poster on that new board. I sense a loss, but I do not see going to a setup like that as anything I want to do whether or not DU2 is here.

The word 'sinister' has never come up before your post. I do, however, see the changes as being a huge sweep of the board to put a stop to what WAS GOING ON HERE.

Maybe things will work out and get fixed to be what we had going here at the new place. I will not sign up unless I see that happen.
