Another video posted from UC Davis pepper spray incident
DAVIS, CA - A video posted on YouTube Monday has footage of events that happened before UC Davis Campus police pepper sprayed protesters.

On Friday, Nov. 18, campus police arrested 10 protesters. While police tried to leave the area, protesters made a human chain around the area and sat down. According to witnesses, police told the protesters to move. But when protesters refused, police pepper sprayed the group.

YouTube user UCD College Republican posted the video. The user said the video shows the other side of the controversy.

The video shows the crowd chanting "set them free" and urging police to release protesters who had been arrested earlier. At one point in the video, protesters used a microphone to tell police "if you let them go, we will let you leave."

1. I don't understand how the DoJ hasn't stepped in and prosecuted
those who took part and those who authorized it. It is as sickening to watch as the 1st time I saw it. I see it as using chemical weapons against peaceful individuals. Beyond shameful-CRIMINAL!

4. This doesn't add up at all....
... The police did NOT use pepper spray against students who were "preventing them from leaving." If you watch the longer version of the original video, the police back out (with the students encouraging them to leave). What's more, at the point when the students were sprayed, the police were NOT encircled. The asshole cop that did the spraying casually retrieves the canister from a bag, waives it in the air as if to show it off, and then very casually walks back and forth as if he were spraying his garden for bugs. This was NOT the posture of police who were threatened in any way.

6. Saying, "if you let them go, we will let you leave" was not very smart.
Whoever initiated this action among the protesters did not think this through. It was technically false imprisonment to tell the cops they would be allowed to leave if they set free those arrested. If any of us were surrounded by teabaggers and told we would be allowed to leave if we did what they asked, we would certainly feel we were being falsely imprisoned.

The cop's action was stupidly sadistic, but it was also stupid to physically surround the cops. The guy with the mic who called that out was never at any risk of being pepper sprayed like those sitting on the ground. It's not very brave to put others at risk because of your words.

9. point blank in the face at motionless, seated protestors is indefensible
Edited on Sat Dec-03-11 01:47 PM by CreekDog
furthermore, the court decision about the Humboldt pepper spraying by sheriff's deputies made this legally unacceptable too.

whatever fancy videos or words you post doesn't change these facts.

unrecommended.
