Father held in 2 beatings of baby girl in a month: Daughter may lose sight in her right eye
Buffalo News

At 6 foot, 3 inches and 240 pounds, Antuan Jordan is a big man.

His 11-month-old daughter, at 20 pounds, is not so big.

That may be why Erie County sheriff's deputies are appalled at the evidence in the case against Jordan who is accused of twice beating his daughter so fiercely that she may end up blind in her right eye.

"I tried to get a reason why anyone would do that, and he's not giving anything up," said Senior Detective James F. Hatch. "What I did get from the other family members was that he could not be bothered with watching the child as an adult supervisor should. He did not want to be bothered."

-----------------------

Just an awful story. The first time she was injured, the girl was taken to the doctor after hemorrhaging but released back to the parents after the physician couldn't rule out a blood disease as a cause.

Here's hoping she makes a full recovery.

2. The mother was the child's only defense
She knew this creep was abusive and even after the first injury left the baby with him.
I have no sympathy for her either. I would have killed anyone doing that to my babies.

4. Not that it is necessarily the case here,
but sometimes the mothers in these situations are also subjected to abuse, cowed, and kept in line through fear and manipulation. When that is the case, I do have sympathy. I was abused as a child, and my mom was beaten too, so I know first hand what I'm talking about, and there is copious academic evidence for this as well. You of course aren't required to spare a second thought about any of this, just pointing out that not everyone is so fortunate to have the psychological resources to deal with these situations in the ideal manner.

3. I have seen this with other caregivers of small children. They cannot
handle the crying so they take it out on the child. He is immature to say the least. Some people should not have children - too bad many of them do not see this before it is too late. I hope he gets what he deserves.
