Ian Thompson told a news conference Thursday that about 250 of the 292 arrestees are still in jail on $5,000 bail although most have only been charged with the misdemeanor crime of failure to disperse.

He says California law clearly states that people charged with misdemeanors are to be cited and released.

Thompson says the city is using high bail amounts and delaying arraignments as an "intimidation tactic" against the protesters. A spokesman for the City Attorney's office did not immediately return a phone call seeking comment.

Just got bailed this morning from Van Nuys jail with 292 detainees from OccupyLA. I am furious about this awful unlawful arrest!

#OccupyLA
We want Ruth & all of our detainees freed immediately! Holding an 80 yr old woman for so long on a misdemeanor is unconscionable.

2. So Michelle Shocked is still out there getting into trouble
I remember when her first major-label album came out in 1988 with a cover picture of her getting arrested at the 1984 Democratic National Convention. (See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Short_Sharp_Shocked)

Nice to know she's still at it.

You said it. But then, that appears to be par for the course in anti-OWS police responses.

6. Finally, after sitting for hours in our own urine and vomit...
Occupy Los Angeles
via Stephanie Lopez- I was released this morning from the Van Nuys county jail after being detained with a large group of people for walking on a sidewalk. Around 2:30 am we were transferred to the Van Nuys jail where we were left misinformed and unattended for 7 hours inside several busses, only to be taken rite back to the downtown metro detention center across the street where we were detained from. Finally, after sitting for hours in our own urine and vomit, we were taken out and placed inside the detention center to be processed. We were told that we weren't going to get OR'd that night because they did not want us to go back to City Hall and that we would have to wait the next day or week for a court date or bail. Please donate to help speed up the bail process, they NEED TO GET OUT NOW. ~oa

7. some are injured and in need of medications- in some case they have been humiliated and subjected to
Occupy Los Angeles
Only a handful of our Occupiers have been released thus far. We have heard from our NLG sources that many more could be released between 6pm and 9pm tonight.

Needs of the Occupiers: Transportation from Jail, Counseling, Shelter, food and clean clothing. If you have transportation, please see the addresses below. If you are a counselor please attend our GA tonight at 7:30pm at City Hall. If you are able to provide shelter please attend our GA to find out details. If you have food or clean clothing, please bring to locations below or to the GA.

OLA GA: 200 N Spring St - West side stairs.

LA Central Jail: 441 Bauchet St. LA, CA

Van Nuys Courthouse: 6320 Sylmar Ave, Van Nuys CA

Please know that those arrested have been held for an extended period, some are injured and in need of medications- in some case they have been humiliated and subjected to harsh conditions. These people need our help to return to their homes or be placed in shelters.
Not all will be released tonight. Our attention will be making sure they are freed promptly.

Thanks for your assistance.
