Pepper spray, its effects, and its appropriateness continue to be top of mind in the media.

Following the protests at UC Davis, during which Occupy protesters were sprayed with pepper spray by a campus police officer, Fox News commentator Megyn Kelly went on the Bill O'Reilly show.

Kelly appeared to downplay the physical effects of pepper spray. Kelly said pepper spray is "like a derivative of real pepper. It's a food product essentially."

Maybe so, but her comments have sparked a spicy backlash. A petition is circulating on the Internet that suggests Kelly should put her eyeballs where her mouth is by getting sprayed with the substance on live television. Currently, more than 16,000 people have signed the pledge. Kelly herself notes in the interview that the spray is "obviously invasive and obtrusive and several went to the hospital." ............(more)

it must be to have cayenne pepper sprayed into the eyes, throat, & nasal passages.

When I was a kid I took a deep whiff of a packet of crab boil & I'll never forget the horrible burning in my eyes & nose.

Yeah, it's sparingly used in foods, but I'd like this Fixed News idiot to "taste" it as though it were a "food product essentially".

5. I was in jail once and was pepper sprayed while in a fight.

It was a drunk charge, nothing big. Anyway, when sprayed, I was in agony. They threw me in a single cell. I couldn't see. I felt my way around to the toilet. I didn't care. I used that water and splashed my face with it like I was I was vacationing at some tropical resort.

That's how bad it felt.
