In the last five minutes I've read about an abandoned school in the D.C. area being taken over, as well as some foreclosed properties in Oakland, CA.

The establishment is gonna find... they were WAY better off when they were all encamped In a central location.

NOW... they are having to chase them down from one place to another.

And fortunately/unfortunately... there are plenty of abandoned buildings these days... many of them "Public".

The Movement... Is Viral !!!

19. this was in the planning for a while now

there were occupiers in some of the buildings during the bridge march. They had actually taken down info on who would be willing to squat before the breakup of Zuccotti. I think the breakup of the camps is maybe a blessing in disguise kind of thing.

Zuccotti was overrun with people who gave not a rat's ass about the movement. Twenty people or more at a time holding buckets begging for Occupy money that did not go to Occupy. Shit being stolen left and right. Real occupiers would not steal from one another. We are a brotherhood. We help one another, not take from one another. About a quarter to a third of Zuccotti was taken up by people not involved in the movement. While I have sympathy for a homeless man and wish to feed him, it had become a hangout for druggies, thanks to the NYPD. Sympathy for drug abusers? Yes, I do, but Zuccotti was understaffed to do any more than give them a place to hang out and food to eat. Enabling them, more or less. They seemed able to find and purchase drugs ok.
They were becoming a threat to the entire movement.
I knew other plans were emerging and I am somewhat glad that they will not have to attempt to make it in the park for the winter. I do not know if they plan to take it back or not, but I suspect flash mobs, squatting, and Mic checks will be the way for the winter months. Hopefully a huge encampment in DC for the spring too.

Right off the freeway... streets, traffic signals, buildings with parking lots... completely empty for the last few years. In fact... it has NEVER been occupied. Built, and then abandoned.

It was occupied by businesses. Untill the owner decided to up the rent in the middle of a recession. Now, its clearing out one by one. only one anchor store left, and a few smaller businesses.

...and revive an old tactic from my youth: Teach-ins.

I bet that in any given Occupy community, there are a dozen or so folks who have a knack for teaching and cool stuff to share. We could all take turns, post a schedule, put a syllabus online on FB or (BETTER!) D*, and start teaching.

Modern history.

Math.

Music.

Botany.

Ecology.

Yoga.

I'd happily take any of them once. If the teacher has "the knack," I'll come back, again and again, to be with people who are turned on by learning and teaching.

So cool.

...there's an abandoned store (former Big Box-type) that's been emptied, but is only secured by a three-dial combination lock. I'm honestly shocked that no one's broken in the store yet. Given... two hours?... anyone could get in and start an Occupy Oswego squatter's camp. Just sayin'.
