Police: 2 Georgia Caregivers Waterboard 89-Year-Old Woman
November 18, 2011 3:09 PM

JONESBORO, Ga. (CBS Atlanta) – Police charge two caregivers at a Jonesboro facility with waterboarding an 89-year-old woman.

Clayton County police said Jermeller Steed and Cicely Reed held down Anna Foley after an argument that started over ice cream.

They’re said to have allegedly held down Foley in a locked shower room, flooding her face with the hand-hold shower nozzle in 2008.

According to WGCL-TV, Foley was undergoing treatment at the facility for dementia. A co-worker witnessed the event and blew the whistle.

Enjoy the pokey, you ignorant monsters. People are so vulnerable in those institutions. I have relatives with dementia. Oh my gosh, it's so scary!

2. It's not just in rest homes. These low-paid, Untrained, unprofessional people are torturing
developmentally disabled people. They need to go to prison for years. And the people entering those jobs need to be screened better and watched more closely.

4. They are paid peanuts so finding better applicants is going to be tough let alone screening them.

11. That's true
There's a need for well-trained, dedicated staff. Unfortunately TPTB are always cutting budgets. Accordingly the pay rate for staff who are responsible for the health and safety of other human beings, and who often have to handle challenging behaviors from those individuals, is often little more than if they worked at Wal-Mart. It's hard to get educated, dedicated people who will sign on for all that's required of such positions when they can't really make a living off them. The people who choose to work in such fields don't expect to become rich of course, but they shouldn't have to work routine overtime and/or multiple jobs just to stay afloat. As a result agencies end up with some dedicated staff, but all too often with people who are there because they think it's easier than standing on their feet all day stocking shelves (it's not) or because they imagine they can get paid for watching TV while their charges languish in a corner. That's where much of the abuse and neglect comes in.

3. Disgusting
What kind of a cowardly monster would do such a thing to an 89 year old woman with dementia? And over ice cream.

8. Really. Why should people paid $6 an hour behave better than our well-paid leaders?

12. Everyone gets old (if you're lucky enough to live long enough) best
to keep that in mind. They better hope that they aren't treated the way they treated others ... "payback can be a bitch". x(
