Good Kitty
‘Squirt,’ the Hospice cat

"Squirt came here with his mother and his mother had eventually ran away," remembers Margaret Cheek, the assistant clinical manager over Shepherd's Cove. "He slowly began to come inside more and more because the nurses would sneak him in at night. Now, he pretty much rules the roost around here."

Squirt has easily become a household name around the facility and has been known to visit with patients and their families during his rounds.

"Some people are cat people and some are not," Cheek said. "Some residents leave their door open for him and he just makes himself at home. I've seen Squirt lying in beds with patients and they pet him and love on him. It's very calming for them. Patients families also fall in love with him and would bring him food."

....

"If he's laying in a chair, we don't dare move him. We just pull up another chair," Cheek smiles. "He also loves his treats and has been know to swat at nurses to get their attention for a treat."

1. the poor little guy has diabetes, that's tough
it's a common problem with cats.
I would think it would be an excellent idea to have cats in all Hospice Hospitals.
They relieve stress, are nurturing and affectionate.

2. Most diabetic cats are pretty easy to manage. Gotta see the vet periodically
for lab tests, but the insulin part can be really simple.
