My Mom is a veteran
She served in the United States Marine Corps in World War II from 1943 to 1945 (and my Dad served for 20 years). She's now 93. Her father served in the USMC in World War I, and knew Gen. Smedley Butler socially. If you want to read her story, download this PDF file (3 Mb).

1. Your mom did a very tough thing
I can remember that even in the 60s and 70s women in the military weren't respected very much.

8. True, she says the male officers at that time referred to the women as
"BAMs" for "Broad Assed Marines."

4. Maybe she knew my aunt
Aunt Mary's older son, Harry, was in high school. One day, his math class got out of control, so the teacher, as good teachers do, got the attention of the class to restore order.

"I used to be a Marine sergeant," he grumbled.

Harry started laughing.

"What are you laughing at?" the teacher asked.

Harry composed his laughter long enough to tell him, "My mother was a Marine sergeant, too."

7. Thank you - and by the way, the photos of Disneyland are at:

The last 14 photos in the set were taken by my Dad at Disneyland on August 27, 1956, my sister Penny's 10th birthday.

13. Need to call the story something like
"My Momma wore combat boots".

Very enjoyable and informative. Thank you for sharing.

15. Thank you!
I don't think my Mom ever saw actual combat, but her father and husband did. But I like your title!
