a question about Korea
I see post that condemn USa military actions in many places, but I always see Korea listed in there. Now, wasn't Korea a UN police action, to stop Korea from being invaded by China and their puppets in North Korea? I ask because , since we know what Kim Il Jong turned out to be, and the utter mess North Korea is (especially opposed to South Korea), what was wrong with the Korean war? Especially since it was the last time the US seemed to respect the UN, even to the point of firing Mcarthur.

1. It was a "police action" because Stalin goofed
The only way the US got it through the UN was because the Soviets had walked out and weren't around to veto the resolution. Resolution passed and US had UN backing to respond. China did not enter the conflict until MacArthur pushed the North Koreans back up to their border and was threatening he might cross the river (which is why Truman fired him).

Both Koreas ended up blown back to the stone age by the war. I have read that up until about 1970 or so, the North had recovered faster than the South. It wasn't until the late '70s that North Korea began slipping farther and farther behind. Grain production peaked there in 1984 and hasn't recovered since.

2. And mainland China was not part of the UN Security Council at the time.
The Republic of China (Taiwan) held that seat on the Security Council until 1971.

After that Korean 'police action' vote, the Soviets never missed another meeting.
