Tried to move my money but local community bank said no.
Edited on Wed Nov-09-11 07:58 PM by tblue
I kid you not. First off, I wanted to go to a credit union but there isn't one around for miles. The Moveyourmoney database gave me the name of a local bank.

So I brought to the new bank paperwork from all my various accounts and said I was ready to move it to their bank.

I have a 401K with one of the big bank/brokerages. Turns out it will cost me a LOT to move it. (BOOOO!!!!) So I would lose thousands of dollars if I did. I can't afford that.

I also have a little tiny IRA account, and another regular savings account. These I was ready to move to the new bank asap.

The new bank just called and said if I don't want to move it all over to them AND open a checking account, they don't want my business.

THEY DON'T WANT MY BUSINESS????!!!

Hell, I guess I'm gonna have to make a trek to a credit union after all. SHEESH!

Thanks for letting me .

1. That's odd.

I have never heard of a bank or credit union doing that before.

Try another credit union, you probably not have the same problem again.

4. Cuz I don't need one!
Edited on Wed Nov-09-11 07:25 PM by tblue
Hubby and I have one. Our mortgage, some savings, checking and all kinds of stuff are in one bank — it's way complicated, our money. I can't move that right now, and I'll have to work on my hubby. It won't be easy. This was MY little money I wanted to move asap. But they don't want it. So they won't get my business. I don't like any banks now. Credit union, here I come!

3. BTW out in the country we almost never go to the CU.
My paychecks are deposited directly and I use my debit card to get what I need plus occasionally cash back at the grocery store.

5. You have only failed if you stop trying.
For what it's worth, My credit union is in San Leandro, Ca. I have lived in Tucson Az. for the last year and have absolutly no problem with banking or lending (just got a car loan) or spending or saving (other than cashflow).

6. I moved to Arkansas in 2006 and my CU is in Miami, FL
My monthly SSDI is direct deposited there. I can pay bills online and use their ATM card or write checks, etc. :hi:

11. No kidding.
Kinda hurt my feelings. I left there on Monday with the lady saying she would get my signature card all ready for the IRA. And she was the one who pointed out all the money I'd lose if I moved the 401K. Today she called and said don't come back, in so many words.

12. gawd I LOVE my credit union....
Wow, sorry to hear you're having difficulty. Too bad the nearest CU is so far away! I moved from BofA to a local CU ten years ago and have never regretted it!
