Ohio Gov. John Kasich honors Martin Luther King Jr. holiday on wrong date, St. Patrick's Day

By Reginald Fields, The Plain Dealer

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Monday was a holiday, just not the one Gov. John Kasich's staff had on its mind.

The Republican governor issued a resolution on Monday honoring the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., but instead of recognizing the slain black civil rights leader on Jan. 17, 2011, Kasich signed a document that recognized him on March 17, 2011 -- St. Patrick's Day, a holiday devoted to the life of an Irish apostle.

1. Sure and begorrah...
We shall now celebrate the legacy of MLK by drinking Guinness, singing The Rising of the Moon, and watching Father Ted.

2. The Irish won't mind.
They spent eight hundred years crushed under the heel of the English. They have a lot of commonality with the struggle by African Americans for equal rights in this country. They completely understand.

4. Yes I know why you are upset and I'm sure the slight will be
fixed in the future. I was just making a remark about the Irish also being downtrodden in history but he probably doesn't know it and wanted it to be an insult.
