Of course, this question is only for those that might watch the show from time to time. :-)

But it is only Joe that is wrapped in the flags and they are always unfurling perfectly in the NY breeze. At first, I thought they were real. Now I see they are contrived. But why? :-)

12. The flag worship is an example of symbol over substance.

Right-wingers seem shallow, seeing only the surfaces of things.

They worship the flag even as they trash the country and the democracy that the flag stands for. (Remember flag lapel pins?)

They love Jesus statues, but defy his words and teachings in everything they do ("Blessed are the poor"? I don't think so).

They worship the image of Ronald Reagan while ignoring the many things he did that they would hate and reject him for if he suddenly appeared today.

They celebrate the simplicity of "9-9-9" (or "Drill, Baby, drill") while ignoring the consequences, even those that will hurt them personally.

They are obsessed with the phrase "Founding Fathers" yet seem not to know the first thing about them or what they actually did or said.

6. I noticed it about a month or so ago

or whenever they changed the set. Mika has a plain blue background behind her, Joe has the perfect US flags flapping gracefully behind him and Willie has the statue of Liberty positioned strategically behind his head. It's so obvious and insulting. It reads as Mika: woman, Democrat = not patriotic, Willie and Joe: men, Republicans = patriotic. I don't know why Mika doesn't do anything about it, but maybe she doesn't have enough power to change things or she's not perceptive enough to realize how bad this looks.

They put that back ground in there because they want it in the background of your mind. Every time your mind's eye pictures him he wants you to see him and the flag as one. It is not a happy accident, it is a planned bit of manipulation and it was very good of you to catch it.
