Man avoids jail by faking illegal immigrant status
SALT LAKE CITY (AP) -- A Utah man hatched a creative scheme to avoid going to prison on a drug charge: He lied to authorities and said he was an illegal immigrant so he could get deported to Mexico and evade time behind bars.

The jig was up, however, when 27-year-old Jaime Alvarado returned to the U.S. using his passport and was arrested again by Salt Lake City police.

The tactic exploited a system in which law enforcement officials sometimes prefer deporting illegal immigrant offenders instead of adding to an already overloaded prison system.
At the time of his initial arrest, Alvarado claimed he was Saul Quiroz and had emigrated from Mexico illegally. He is actually an American citizen.

On Feb. 3, he admitted to a state judge that he had lied about his identity because he was afraid of leaving his daughters with an imprisoned father. He requested leniency for the crime he had pleaded guilty to prior to his deportation - a second-degree felony for possession of cocaine and heroin with the intent to distribute - that carried a prison term of up to 15 years.

I thought the ploy was creative at least.

1. Definitely creative... or just plain crafty.
I have a hard time judging for many reasons, first off being the number of thieves of billions residing on Wall St., working for the fed and treasury.

Until they're brought to justice, I don't think anyone should. After all, how many people had to turn to crime to make a living after those who are too big to fail got off, with golden parachutes?

If it wasn't already crystal clear that "justice" depends on income and wealth, it's been rammed down our throats this past five years.

2. the heroin and cocaine he had should be legal
and it should be legal for him to sell them to any adult. 15 years for selling people recreational goods that they don't even need, yet tanking the economy is legal, stealing millions gets you 4 years in jail and you get to keep 70 million dollars, but try to sell some cocaine and heroin to feed your family and you get 15 years. what a fucked up country

3. The penalty for a victimless crime is appalling
and extremely wasteful use of monies.

I'm sure Obama's drug czar is on top of the situation
suggesting one of his programs of therapy etc....LOL
