Shooting Suspect Had Been Known to Use Potent, and Legal, Hallucinogen.
It remains unclear what, if any, role salvia played in shaping Mr. Loughner’s views. But the shootings have once again drawn attention to a drug that — for little more than the cost of a pack of cigarettes and without the hassle of showing a driver’s license — a growing number of young people here and throughout much of the country are legally buying and using.

4. Oh, fuck this! They're just pumping up the corrupt, murderous, FAILED U.S. "war on drugs"--
--the back-up plan of the war profiteers, to loot us forever. Yeah, now ban salvia and put ten thousand more people into private prisons to be raped, beaten and turned into criminals, while the fat government leeches who profit from the militarization of every problem laugh all the way to their banksters.

The New York Slimes are also very likely covering up what really happened to this kid--conditioned by scopolamine, the drug of choice for creating obedient zombies who can be turned to any purpose.

I don't call them the Slimes for nothing.

5. OK, you hysterics, read the article and learn a few things:
'No one has suggested that his use of a hallucinogenic herb or any other drugs contributed to Jared L. Loughner’s apparent mental unraveling that culminated with his being charged in a devastating outburst of violence here.

Yet it is striking how closely the typical effects of smoking the herb, Salvia divinorum — which federal drug officials warn can closely mimic psychosis — matched Mr. Loughner’s own comments about how he saw the world, like his often-repeated assertion that he spent most of his waking hours in a dream world that he had learned to control. . .

Nationwide, poison centers treated 117 Salvia divinorum exposures in 2010, up from 81 the year before.

Salvia’s growing popularity has led nearly half the states to ban or restrict the sale of the herb, which is often treated with concentrated extract of the active chemical to make it more powerful. The push coincides with recent efforts by states around the country to outlaw a number of other legal drugs that often sit alongside salvia on the shelves that use chemical additives to mimic the effects of illegal drugs like marijuana.

“It’s an issue that the states are increasingly paying attention to,” said Alison Lawrence, policy specialist for the National Conference of State Legislatures.'

I hope I don't have to regret posting informative things here.
E

14. Isn't interesting how easy it is to suggest banning another fucking plant
yet banning the gun that actually shot all those people? Heavens, we can't do that.

19. Why is there any reason to ban either?
If it's not reasonable to ban a plant which doesn't have any lasting effects, how is it logical to ban a gun identical to every other modern gun?

Maybe prohibitionism isn't the answer.

But I guarantee you the ZOMG ZOMG DRUGZ!!! talk will be taken much more 'seriously' than any talk of gun regulation, which simply isn't going to happen. Ever.

31. Certain people have been very good at demonizing anyone who uses drugs.
Firearms being protected by constitutional rights means that there are plenty of gun owners are a loud and motivated voting bloc, who will actively get rid of politicians who don't respect them. But the prohibitionists have free reign to demonize and slander anyone who's ever picked up a joint, and anyone who stands up for them in public is treated as a kook or a joke. That's changing slowly, but it will be quite awhile before there's as strong a pushback on new drug laws as there is from gun owners.

18. I know people who've both smoked this and used the concentrated extract.
Salvia produces an extremely short-lived "high," if you can call it that, i.e. five minutes or less of a vividly altered state of mind. And that's it. You'll get a longer lasting effect from doing a few shots of booze on an empty stomach.

Even if we don't have a clue as to whether or not Loughner used them. Can't let a golden opportunity such as this pass by.

.. whether it's guns, speech they don't like, or some substance they don't like.

I fully expect to find out in the next couple of weeks that he ate a lot of fast food (ban it!), played video games (ban 'em!), received the MMR vaccine (ban it!), hell, maybe he was even circumcised.

12. Just not the right stuff
I bought some salvia x30 extract (or something or another) and smoked it twice.

I have tripped at least 200 times on acid et.al. and NOTHING has EVER come close to the experience I had on salvia. It was interesting, but I will likely never do it again. Way too emotive and freaky

Honestly, I spent years following the Dead.. I've seen people under the influence of just about every substance known to man.. and I've never seen anything as fucked up and whacked out as the other night on my tv, when I came across Glenn Beck trying to explain how Democrats, Propaganda, and people eating bacon for breakfast are all integrally interrelated.

17. he used salvia daily
according to one friend. I think I've read every article on Loughner, trying to figure it out. Sounds like he was a normal kid in junior high. "Loughner's passion was music. He started on the saxophone around the fifth grade. By late middle school, he was a serious jazz buff, with John Coltrane, Miles Davis and Charlie Parker on his iPod."

http://azstarnet.com/news/local/article_390c68dd-1c30-5c34-bb74-c4d7ec8e55ec.html

One neighbor remembers hearing "beautiful music coming from their house" and she loved to listen to it, then the music from the house stopped. It's easier for me to think of Loughner as a psychotic evil monster, without any human characteristics I could possibly relate to, on any level. But Coltrane? He loved 'Trane? Damn, I love Coltrane, and Miles Davis, and Bird. I try to imagine music drifting over a neighborhood on a spring night, a monster playing "Bye Bye Blackbird" on saxophone, and my head explodes.

It's the ultimate gateway chemical.

Insufficient oxygen for Mr. Loughner would have solved many problems.

It doesn't last very long. Maybe a minute at the most (for me, anyways). It wasn't a comfortable high so I had no desire to use it after that.
