Rubio Tries To Clarify How His Family Left Cuba

October 24, 2011

GOP rising star Sen. Marco Rubio caught heat last week for his Senate bio that misstated when his family left Cuba for the U.S., a detail of some relevance in his home state of Florida. But in explaining his side of the story in a Politico op-ed, Rubio laid out a narrative dramatically different from the one he provided to NPR in late 2009.

1. Oh well, those flames from his pants on fire will follow him all the days of his political life. NT

2. I can't really tell if he is lying or just misremembering stories he heard
it sounds like he could be embellishing or just not remembering stories he heard as a child the way they really happened. Still a month is a long time to wait to leave a country.

In any case it is sad that he has to explain how he is an actual citizen.

8. He's lying his ass off. I've never met a Cuban family here
that didn't know where they were at the time Bautista was booted from power.

3. Most of the Cubans that split right after Castro took over
Were members of the old ruling class who knew what would happen if they stuck around

4. Amateur. Here's what he should have said.
"While my mother was praying the rosary over sickly orphans, the Virgin Mary said appeared to her and told her she must convince her family to leave Cuba immediately before the the Holy Father tested the faith of the people with the plague of communism."
