Message from OWS from their FB page: ...Occupy Wall St. is for the 99%! Each and every one of you...
https://www.facebook.com/#!/OccupyWallSt

We just want to remind everyone that Occupy Wall St. is for the 99%! Each and every one of you is included! Many people are concerned that this is becoming a strictly left-wing movement. That just is not true. Remember, this is not about pushing a specific political standpoint, it is about discussion between all of us. This is not an "us" vs. "them," this is everyone working together to make life better.

1. Yeah
I don't think the right wing inspired 53 percenters get that. They are proud to be living substandard lives without health care benefits, in debt and having to work two and three jobs just to scrape by.

I'm not sure what is left wing about wanting to be able to return to a more level playing field where a one income family can raise their kids, provide education and health care and one day retire. But there you go.

6. I agree. The thing that has happened is that the RW has placed themselves so far out there
that there just isnt much room for anything else in their ideology. Romney is too far left wing for them and Romney is pretty far out there himself.

4. Wow. The OWS marketing team fell down on this one.
It really is an "us vs. them" thing. Nobody's going to believe that it isn't. Even the name of the organization indicates "us vs. them."

8. I am a little surprised how far they went on the inclusiveness with that, but understand what they
Edited on Fri Oct-14-11 04:18 PM by stevenleser
are saying. It's about supporting policies that benefit the 99% and opposing policies that benefit the 1% over the 99%.

It's important that they say something like this because a lot of people, like the person who commented right after you, are trying to hijack what they are saying to fit their agenda. It's not about supporting Democrats over Republicans (which prior to OWS was generally where I was), or supporting one left group over another, its about what you are doing.

I think a lot of folks who are members of groups that identify to the left of the Democratic party are going to be disappointed in that because they have their priorities wrong and have had wrong priorities for a long time.

But it's just not the case. At all.

17. I get what they are saying. They are saying it is the 99% against the 1%. But it really isn't that
Edited on Fri Oct-14-11 04:45 PM by stevenleser
either. OWS is for policies that benefit the 99% and against policies that benefit the 1% over the 99%. That is not the same thing as being against the 1%.

I don't get the sense that OWS is out to attack or hate on the 1%, they just dont want policies that benefit them at the expense of the 99%.

13. "us v.s. them" is the 99% against the 1%
not liberals v.s. conservatives. There are a LOT of conservatives in the 99% who do not recognize or accept that they are in the 99% and will never be part of that 1%, but that is their choice. Hopefully they will recognize that someday and will join the 99% and OWS movement.

OWS is not AGAINST the 1%, they are against policies that benefit them over the 99%. Not exactly the same thing.

23. They have a media team and a PR team.
I don't remember the names, but some of them have been interviewed on RT eg. One of them I saw today is a systems analyst, I believe, but he said he was even amazed at the success of the movement, that it far exceeded their expectations at this point. Eg, that 54% of the population supports them, that despite the media's attempts to first ignore them, over 80% of the population are aware of them. Kind of shows how the MSM's influence has seriously diminished. And in other polls nearly 80% agree with their slogan 'they got bailed out, we got sold out'.

He was amazed at how far the movement has spread, not just nationally but internationally, now in 78 other countries. I guess they struck a chord and started a conversation that, as some of them have said, was not taking place among the politicians or the media. But yes, they do have teams to handle almost everything. Those teams are agreed upon at the GAs.

12. Read what you write aloud before posting. It's not logical to argue people are protesting
in favor of the status quo.

You can sling whatever slurs you like; it doesn't make your position coherent.

16. Just one question before I put you on ignore. How does one so readily leap to such strawmen all the
Edited on Fri Oct-14-11 04:41 PM by stevenleser
time? So when someone says, "It's about the 99%" and you respond "... not about the status quo", how did you decide what concept to attack? And in your mind, do choices present themselves? Since you virtually never respond to what the poster said, and instead attack totally different ideas, how does that work? I'm just really curious.

I'm also curious to find out what kind of straw man you will create from this post. What sort of argument to attack you will invent that has nothing to do with what I have written. Whatever it is, make it a good one, because, as I said, it will be the last one I read from you before you get plonked.
