Our Grand Canyon - Non-Negotiable!
Please get involved if you can, this is just relentlessly horrible, thanks!

_____________

Arizona’s Republican delegation showed again today that its priorities are all wrong.

They are determined to open up the Grand Canyon to uranium mining.

The Republican delegation, led by U.S. Sen. John McCain and Reps. Jeff Flake and Paul Gosar, has put forward legislation that would give mining companies access to one million acres of public land – including the Grand Canyon National Park’s watershed.

Like many of you, I treasure the Grand Canyon and appreciate its unique role in our state’s identity – so much so that I’ve made sure to visit the canyon with my family so that my children will understand how important it is to Arizonans.

This is too important. Can you help me fight back by clicking here?

The Arizona Republican delegation’s decision to prioritize this risky project for the mining industry over the integrity of the Grand Canyon and the communities at the risk of potential environmental disaster is unconscionable.

Republicans say opening up the Grand Canyon to uranium mining is about jobs. But if Republicans were so concerned about creating jobs, they would focus on sustainable economic development – not giving a short-term boost to uranium mines.

I need your help so we can mount an aggressive rapid-response program to let Arizona Republicans know our Grand Canyon is not for sale.

We can't let politicians who are in the pockets of mining lobbyists control the future of our state's most precious asset.

Yours in the fight,

Luis Heredia
Executive Director
Arizona Democratic Party

3. I've paddled all 288 miles of it twice. I'd hate to see it ruined. Down
on the river it is just the most majestic place on earth.

5. I hope they don't ruin the Grand Canyon
I visited it when I was a child. Uranium mining would likely destroy it. They are treating like it's one more thing to be sacrificed on the altar of big business.
