California quarry killer died from self-inflicted gunshot

The California cement plant worker who killed three colleagues and wounded seven others died from a self-inflicted gunshot and was not killed by sheriff's deputies as first believed, the Santa Clara County coroner has determined.

Last week, sheriff's officials said Shareef Allman, 47, had made a threatening motion at three sheriff's deputies, who then fired, apparently killing him, on Thursday morning behind a car in a residential neighborhood.

Santa Clara County Sheriff's Capt. Kevin Jensen said today that Allman held the gun to one of his temples, the San Jose Mercury News reports.

"There were other wounds in the body, but this was determined to be the lethal wound," said Jensen, who oversees the coroner's office.

Allman's family had no immediate comment.
