10 Similarities between Conservatives and Nazis
Columnist - John Sammon.

Before the election last November, a Frenchman (immigrant) who was canvassing for Barack Obama saw me in my yard working, and came over to ask me to vote for Obama. We got to talking about France, and I asked him if France had conservatives?

“Oh yes,” he said with a serious expression. “They are called Fascists.”

His candor was refreshing, to say the least. But there are indeed some similarities between the right wing of the GOP, and the most reprehensible regime ever inflicted on mankind, Hitler and his Nazi rat henchmen.

1. k and r Here are a couple of
items from the article:

1. The general feeling, whether spoken out right, or kept not-so-subtly-hidden, of being better than others. Nazis, like Republicans, and Republicans, like Nazis, think they’re better. They’re white. They don’t like, not necessarily in this order of dislike, niggers, spics, gooks, zips (Koreans), dinks (Chinese), wops, Jew kikes, Japs, wet-back greasers, camel-jockeys and sand niggers (A-rabs), Frogs, foreigners, immigrants, faggots and butch lesbians, and a host of others. Republicans often talk about (white) Americans as though they’re God’s chosen people, the only people who matter (in the war in Iraq, no mention has ever been made of the number of Iraqis killed because they don’t matter). The Nazis of course called themselves the Master Race.

2. Religious Xenophobia. God is a Republican. The Republicans tie religious belief to their supposed superiority, and to politics and policy-setting. They know God. You don’t. God favors them, not you, if you disagree with them. The German Nazis had belt buckles that read, “Gott Mitt Uns” (God is with us).

3. Patriotism as propaganda. Republicans consistently and improperly display the flag, often from car antennas, to demonstrate their patriotic resolve, when the flag was meant to be displayed properly, only in places where decorum would allow dignity. The flag was not meant to be a feckless political prop to back a right wing world viewpoint. For their part, the German Nazis had rallies with thousands of flags.

2. Great article? Please tell me you are joking
The 'religious xenophobia' is particularly laughable. Hitler was hostile to Christianity and the 'Gott mit uns' buckle dated from earlier German military traditions.

Most of the rest of his points apply to many other groups besides Nazis and American conservatives, rendering the comparisons worthless.

This reads like a poorly-written junior high paper. It's as if a 13 year old John Sammon was asked to 'write 10 ways in which conservatives are like Nazis' and put it off until 10 pm the night before it was due.

Please, do not insult the memory tens of millions of victims of the Nazis by pushing this garbage.

Hitler was a christian through and through.

He had the German military uniforms redesigned. "got ist mit uns" probably wouldn't have survived if he was so anti-christian.

Mien Kampf:

Hitler wrote: "I believe that I am acting in accordance with the will of the Almighty Creator: by defending myself against the Jew, I am fighting for the work of the Lord.." As a boy, Hitler attended to the Catholic church and experienced the anti-Semitic attitude of his culture. In his book, Mein Kampf, Hitler reveals himself as a fanatical believer in God and country. This text presents selected quotes from the infamous anti-Semite himself.

In public statements, especially at the beginning of his rule, Hitler frequently spoke positively about the Christian German culture, and his belief in the "Aryan" Christ. In a proclamation to the German Nation February 1, 1933 Hitler stated, "The National Government will regard it as its first and foremost duty to revive in the nation the spirit of unity and co-operation. It will preserve and defend those basic principles on which our nation has been built. It regards Christianity as the foundation of our national morality, and the family as the basis of national life."<11>

6. Conservatism is a RW Ideology. Fascism is a RW Ideiology.
At one time, in Civics class orGovernment Class, we were
taught as Americans we should understand our ideology.

Conservatism taken to its logical extension will become Fascism
Liberalism taken to its logical extension will become Communism
Libertarianism can become Anarchy.

We were taught we had to always be on guard--no matter what
If Liberal, you are free to push for policies as far as you can
but guard against changing the ideology to Communism.
If Conservative you are likewise free to push for Conservative
Policies but guard against changing the ideology.
Same goes for Libertarians.

9. In 1930s America, fascists (like many of our industrialists) supported the Nazis
Before the extent of the death camps became widely accepted knowledge (it was repressed for as long as possible), many American industrialists and others talked openly about their admiration for the Nazis and their industrial organization, and expressed a desire that not only the Nazis win in Europe, but their ideas and systems be adopted in America.

The only DIFFERENCES are in specifics - the Jews as the major target group (although the Nazis in practice always kept in mind that Jews weren't the ONLY problem people), the color and decoration of the uniforms, the names of some common concepts. They say Fatherland, we say Homeland.

11. I think the comparison with Nazies is too much
Conservatives are better likened to the KKK and the Confederacy.
